Adopt A Pet from the Lassen
County Animal Shelter – Willow
The end of the year is fast approaching, along with a flurry of snow showers and holiday events, and the air is buzzing at the Lassen County Animal Shelter. Furry friends, big and small, are making their Christmas wishes. They all are hoping for the same thing: a new home and family to call their own.
Willow is the biggest wisher of them all. She’s bright, enthusiastic, and so full of a contagious type of energy that you can’t help being happy in her presence.

|
Willow is the ultimate snow dog, willing to play for hours on end outside in the chilly weather. So long as she has a warm home to relax in with her favorite people at the end of the day, of course.
This peppy girl is about 3 years old, UTD on her vaccinations, heartworm negative, and spayed. If interested in learning more about Willow, or other adoptable animals at the shelter, please contact staff at (530) 257-9200. As always, if there are other dogs already in the household, staff recommends that potential adopters bring them along for a meet and greet to ensure a good fit.
Featured animals at the Lassen County Animal Shelter are available for adoption on a first-come-first-serve basis. According to California law, all adoptable dogs and cats must be spayed and neutered before leaving our facility. If interested in adopting an animal, please contact the shelter directly.
Current shelter hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Closed Saturday and Sunday. You can contact the shelter at 530.257.9200.

Calling All Young Artists: LFS Holding Teen Dating Violence Awareness Art Contest
Lassen Family Services, a local agency committed to ending abuse in our community, is hosting a Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month art contest with $50 cash prizes for the winning artists in two categories.
Entry into the contest is free and limited to one submission per artist.
Along with the artwork, submissions must include a short paragraph on why you chose to participate and to explain your concept.
| |
|
The art piece also must incorporate some specific text – Teen Dating Awareness Month, February 2025 “Respect That” – that must be easily read from a distance. You can click here to download complete rules and information.
The concept and images for the artwork should be based on the benefits of healthy relationships, and in relation to the theme. The theme “Respect That” highlights the importance of treating partners with dignity, listening to their viewpoints, respecting their boundaries, and valuing their autonomy by focusing on “respect.”
Only original artwork will be considered.
All entries will be reviewed by Lassen Family Services’ Board of Directors to pick the winning design in two categories: Category One for grades 6 to 8, ages 11 to 13 and category two for High School students ages 14 to 17.
The competition will be judged on the marketability of piece to multiple audiences, the creativity and originalality of the artwork and idea, attractiveness in terms of design and the neatness of the layout. Art will also be judged on its overall impact.
Deadline for submissions is January 24th, at 11:59p.m. For questions, please send an email to angela.reed@lassenfamilyservices.org.

New Police Radio in Lassen County
December 16, 1944
Sheriff Olin S. Johnson has officially announced that Lassen County now has its police radio in operation, linking Lassen County police with other law enforcement bodies in Northern California counties.
Susanville’s police radio station is on the air daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and as may be required throughout the night.
Operating on a frequency of 1722 kilocycles for short wave, the automatically operated receiving and sending station, has also two radio equipped automobiles in service, one belonging to the Sheriff’s office and the other to the highway patrol.
It is expected that four cars of each of the services will have radio equipment when installations are fully made.
With call letters KAEX, the radio which involved a cost of approximately $5,000, links Lassen County directly with similar police radio stations in Reno, Chico, Sacramento, and other northern California points.
The radio station will enable the sheriff’s office and other police and official agencies to receive and send messages in a radius of 50 to 60 miles, from which distance other stations will be able to relay to yet further points.
