Bulldog Announcements

Dear Central High Parents/ Guardians,

On behalf of the Central High School staff, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone to a great 2022-23 school year. We are excited to begin the school year with our students in our classrooms and hallways filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning. Central High School is an amazing school full of tradition and pride with a beautiful, historic site. The CHS administration and staff have served many years within the educational field and will bring a wealth of knowledge to ensure Central High School continues to meet the tradition of educational excellence and success. We are eager to support students and families in every way possible.

It is our mission to help every child feel welcomed, connected, and part of our Central High School Bulldog family. The CHS staff will strive to challenge each student to excel in their academic abilities. We believe all students can and must learn at relatively high levels of achievement. We are confident that with your support and help, students can master challenging academic material. We are prepared to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents to achieve this shared educational purpose. It is important that our students graduate from Central High School prepared for the demands of post-secondary education, meaningful careers, and effective citizenship.

Attendance is a top priority at Central High School. CHS wants to partner with your family to ensure your student is successful academically, behaviorally, and socially. School will begin at 8:10 A.M. It is important that students arrive to school on time each day. If your student is late or absent from school, please call the attendance office at 417-523-9615 or 417-523-9616.

The SPS Board of Education adopted transportation eligibility guidelines for the 2022-2023 school year. During the April 12 Board of Education meeting, an update on transportation for the 2022-2023 school year was presented. SPS evaluated the feedback and possible changes that would address the hardships identified. Central High School will utilize Tier 2 regarding start and dismissal times. Our school day will begin at 8:10 AM and conclude at 3:10 PM each day with the exception of late start Wednesday. We have enclosed our bell schedule for you as well. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Shelia Austin for further instructions.

Every school year should be rewarding and memorable. Please encourage your children to remain positive, attend school, and to work diligently whether on-line or seated. Central will do everything we can to meet health and educational needs. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns.

We are looking forward to a great school year here in Bulldog Nation!

Respectfully,

Jeremy B. Brown

Principal

SPS U/ Open House

Central High School will have an opportunity to host SPS U. SPS University is dedicated to providing SPS families and Springfield Community Members with the support they need to invest in the success of their students. As parents, guardians, family and community members desire stronger communication and transparency from school districts, SPS University serves as a great opportunity to close the communication gap, while providing rich resources and supports that will enhance the learning experience of all learners. Workshops will include an introduction to SPS programs, community resources and family engagement strategies.

SPS University and Open House will be September 13th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Parents will be able to sign up for a Parent-Teacher Conference with individual teacher’s if needed, as well as participate in various workshops on using Canvas and Home Access Center. Our district webpage (www.sps.org) contains a link to the “Family Home Access Center”. Parents should use the Family Home Access Center to view information about their child’s schedule, attendance, tardies and grades.  Students may not enter the school until 7:40 a.m. daily.

Welcome back to our returning IB Bulldogs and a BIG welcome to our incoming 9th graders. We’re so glad you are joining the IB Bulldog family!

Did you know that EVERY 9th and 10th grade student is an IB Bulldog at Central High School? All 9th and 10th graders are part of the IB Middle Years Program (MYP), which helps prepare students for future learning in 11th and 12th grades, but also to be better citizens of the world. We take P.R.I.D.E. in our inquiry based learning, our pursuit of critical thinking, and our approach to learning through an international mindset. We are excited for the year ahead, and want to challenge any of those students who might not see themselves as “IB material” to be risk-takers, and think about taking an IB course in their junior and senior years, or even try on the Diploma or Career Programs!

Please do not hesitate to contact one of our coordinators for more information regarding the IB at Central High School. We are always here to help answer any questions!

PTSA Message

As our 2022-2023 school year starts, the Central High School PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) wants to reach out to our whole BULLDOG community (students, teachers, staff, administrators, alumni, parents and guardians) and encourage you to join our CHS PTSA again or for the first time. There is always strength in numbers and the more memberships (individual and business) we have, the better we can accomplish our goals of serving the entire school on multiple levels.

We will continue to partner with the PTA Clothing Bank and to focus on the food, health and hygiene needs of our students. We encourage our students to join the PTSA and apply to be student representatives, so we have a student presence and perspective on all our goals and activities. We encourage our seniors to join PTSA to be eligible for a senior scholarship at the end of second semester.  We encourage all our talented students to participate in the PTA Reflections contest to showcase their creativity in multiple areas and be eligible for our PTSA Reflections Award at the end of the school year.

In the past couple of years, our PTSA has purchased equipment to benefit the entire school including the PA system in the commons and media tables for the library. This year we hope to raise the capital to make a dedicated dining area in the enclosed outdoor courtyard. During the pandemic, our PTSA wrote a grant for food insecurity through the National PTA and received $5000 in funding. We will seek other opportunities through available grants to assist our school. We will continue to have mini grant drawings for our teacher members and to provide ongoing  appreciation to our staff of teachers, administrators, counselors, nurses and custodians.

We will also continue to organize hard working dedicated volunteers to benefit our school. We hope to partner with other groups and booster clubs at Central to increase our reach and work together for a stronger support system. Please email us at bulldogsPTSA@gmail.com for information or view our social media platforms below.

Most importantly, please join our CHS PTSA this school year!
