October is
National Depression and Mental Health Screening Month!

October is National Depression and Mental Health Screening Month — an event to help bring awareness to depression and the need for affordable and accessible mental health screening services.

If your site offers free depression screenings or assessments, take the opportunity to share via social media. You can also post information on the free, anonymous screening tools available on the MHA website HERE.
October is
National ADHD Awareness Month!

ADHD Awareness Month, sponsored by the Attention Deficit Disorder Association and observed each October, highlights the latest research and clinical studies with the goal of bringing more effective treatments. Its guiding principle is that life can be better for those with ADHD and for those who love or work with someone with ADHD.

This month, ADHD and Depression will have a more prominent role online -- If you are recruiting for an ADHD or Depression study, take the opportunity to leverage the added attention this month!
Introducing a new STARR workgroup:
Study Volunteer Transition WG
This workgroup blossomed from a discussion around providing volunteers coming out of research studies with resources to support their continued health.

Objectives may include:

-Creating a Best Practices Guidance doc on post-trial care and resources for sites;
-Drafting a Recommendation Letter to
sponsors.

Please let us know if you are interested in joining this workgroup!
Are you STARR Certified?
The STARR Site Certification was created to help advance mental health clinical research by promoting community engagement, empathy, and communication between research sites, staff, patients, and advocacy groups, as well as providing support for best practices around working with advocacy, suicide prevention, and other areas that enhance clinical research.
Everything The STARR Coalition does comes from our stakeholders looking to make positive change.
NAMI-NYS has announced the details of their 2021 NAMI-NYS Education Conference! The online event will present on the latest research and treatment of psychiatric disorders, advocacy, and issues impacting the delivery of mental health services in New York State.

This year's Excellence in Research Award is being presented to Dr. Anthony Ahmed of Weill Cornell Medical College. There will also be a workshop on Next Wave of Research and Treatment moderated by Dr. Pierre Lindenmayer with panelist and friend of the STARR community, Dr. Corey Fowler of Otsuka.

The poster sessions will include posters detailing current research projects. For the first time ever, NAMI-NYS is accepting posters from The STARR's community! If you are interested in submitting a poster for the 2021 NAMI-NYS Education Conference, please email Matthew Shapiro at matthew@naminys.org.

The STARR Coalition has partnered with thought-leaders across the industry and advocacy to create a National Call to Action to Support Mental Health Research. We have created a campaign consisting of actionable items anyone can do to support and help bring mental health research into the same light as cancer, diabetes or heart disease.

We need everyone's help promoting this National Call to Action!
