Early College Credit Student Ambassador Pilot

Palomar College Update:

Palomar College has completed the first draft of their training manual and has just conducted a two-hour in-person training with San Marcos Unified School District. Four students participated; two from San Marcos High School and two from Mission Hills High School. After the training, we’ll gather feedback to refine the manual and identify areas for improvement. A revised spiral-bound version will then be printed for each site. They will host a similar training for Escondido, the other partner district on this project.

Palomar's Dual Enrollment Ambassador Mission:

The Dual Enrollment Ambassador plays a key role in expanding dual enrollment at their high school and supporting peers, especially those unsure about college. They assist students in navigating college resources, resolving technical issues, and succeeding in coursework by guiding them through Palomar’s support services and portals (Canvas, MyPalomar). This mission aligns with the Office of Dual Enrollment’s goal to create high-quality pathways that increase college credit access for historically underserved students, ultimately enhancing college attendance, graduation rates, and fostering a strong sense of belonging and academic self-confidence.

Imperial Valley College Update:

IVC has hired 7 college ambassadors and all are working at their school sites. The students recently had an HR onboarding meeting and their first official ambassador training session. Their very first assignment was attending the annual College Access Professionals summit which is coordinated by the Imperial Valley Partnership for Higher Education, which IVC is a part of. To the left is a picture of 5 out of 7 who attended the event. IVC has started its Spring 2025 recruitment season.

Education Work Experience Program Updates

We are pleased to report that the first cohort of Education Work Experience Interns has launched! We were able to place 40 college students in internship positions across 10 LEAs in San Diego and Imperial counties. Students completed 20 hours of pre-internship training and are receiving ongoing support through a monthly Community of Practice.

Our second cohort of interns are gearing up to launch in February! This time around we received just over 100 applications and were able to recruit 12 LEAs to serve as hosts for student interns. So far, applicants have completed a total of 176 interviews! Our goal is to place approximately 70 students in internship positions supporting LEAs across San Diego and Imperial counties.

Want to hear about more opportunities? Join a Community of Practice!

The K-16 Collaborative CoPs are designed to support and engage faculty from high school, community college, and university. By working together to bridge the disconnects in our educational pipelines, we can meet the needs of all students in San Diego and Imperial counties.

A community of practice brings together a group of people around a particular body of work. Getting to spend time with others who are facing the same challenges and have the same passions allows you to learn from one another, align systems, and build your network.
