Corridors Campaign keeps connecting
Six new nature reserves protected.
More than 1,900 acres added to the Black River Wildlands and the Carden Alvar since late 2019 in cooperation with our partners.
The vision of unbroken stretches of habitat sewn together to create protected wildlife corridors is closer thanks to your support.
But there is much yet to do.
The ground has shifted significantly since we launched the campaign to develop a connected corridor called the Black River Wildlands in late 2019. Responding to a dire threat to a 1,362-acre Cedarhurst property in Carden, we expanded our drive into The Corridors Campaign. To date we have raised $925,000 toward our goal of $1.4 million.
But land prices and accompanying expectations have been wildly inflated during the Pandemic, and though they appear to be settling down, they are still significantly higher. That’s the setting for our ongoing work to negotiate with landowners to find a way to protect as much land as quickly as possible. There are currently five major prospects in the Black River Wildlands and Carden corridors in various stages of negotiations or discussions. Several smaller parcels are also on our radar for potential acquisition.
