THIS WEEK

Mason United Methodist Church

A theologically progressive,

open, and affirming faith community.

Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors.

October 19th - October 25th, 2022

CLAIM YOUR PLACE AT THE TABLE

Every month, we have a Lead Team Meeting. This model of administration will officially turn the idea of a Lead Team into what we call the Administrative Council Team. An Administrative Council Team is the administrative structure of the local church, as outlined by our denomination.

For now, it is the Lead Team, which discusses the issues of the church—good, bad and ugly. We educate one another by sharing the work we have done, and we make decisions based on that information; usually, we are making important decisions as they apply to the church. But you don't have to be a member of the Lead Team to share your thoughts, or to shape the direction this faith community should go. All of you are always invited to these meetings. As we move into the future, making changes as they seem fit, I want to encourage you to come to the table. Your voice matters!

Peace to all,

Pastor Susan

12:00-1:00 on Sundays after worship.

Hope to see you there and feel free to bring a friend!

HOW WE PRAY................

PRAYER IS IMPORTANT TO US

BECAUSE WE ARE A FAITH FAMILY.

Families share what's happening in our lives, and since we are a church family, we too can share our joys and concerns with one another.

JOYS

Gail and Jim Simpson rejoice with the news of the birth of their great-nephew, Grahm Allan Fortney.

From Chandler: “I thank God for my family!” We celebrate with you, Chandler!

Marci Wilson celebrates God’s goodness with flowering begonias, which she donated to the members of Mason UMC.

Margaret Nelson requests prayers as she and Matthew begin their road trip to Durham, NC. They celebrate that they will be visiting family and friends along the way.

CONCERNS

Gail Simpson asks for prayers for Jared, a friend’s son, who was burned in a house fire. Thankfully, the infection is gone, but he is still awaiting his third skin graft.

Chandler shares his concern for the people who need food and shelter.

We continue to pray for all of those who have lost jobs and security during this time. If you know of anyone who needs assistance with paying bills, please have them contact the church. Funds are available in our Pastor's Discretionary Fund.

HOW WE SERVE................

Can you believe it? We're talking about decorating for Christmas! Krista, Marian Berry, Alice Newkirk and Gail Simpson are planning the decorating project for Advent/Christmas.

Some of the traditional things we do will continue, and with so many other artists wanting to lend a hand, we will have plenty of exciting new things to add. If you are interested in helping to decorate the church, please let Marian Berry know.

On Sunday, October 30th, at 1:00pm we will be doing a Christmas decoration scavenger hunt! Come and discover all the Christmas treasures that, over the years, have been tucked away and out of use.

DON'T FORGET YOUR CHANGE FOR HEIFER INTERNATIONAL!

The children are collecting change on Sunday mornings to buy an animal from Heifer International. Whatever amount they collect at the end of the season will be used by the foundation to purchase a chicken, goat, cow, or other livestock animal for an impoverished family. Don't forget to look in your couch cushions for extra quarters. Every dime counts!

BLESSING BAGS for UNHOUSED PEOPLE

This is an Outreach Ministry that we can all participate in.

Good news: Lynn Stetson and Gail Simpson will be sharing the coordinator role to get this ministry going. We will put out a bin or box so we can collect the following supplies for our houseless and impoverished neighbors:

socks, protein bars, tissues, hand sanitizer, bottled water, feminine hygiene products, dog food, gallon zip lock bags, deodorant, first aid supplies, hand/foot warmers, and any other essentials that people might need.

When we have our supplies, we will regularly hold an assembly line to fill the bags for all of us to take and keep in our cars. STAY TUNED!

Looking In, Reaching Out!

Mason's stewardship campaign is about living into our discipleship. Last Sunday we considered the importance of our gifts, and how they can make a difference for us as people, our church community, and the entire world.

Next week we'll be celebrating our ability to help one another as we dive further into our month of Stewardship. We will also be examining our vows, and rejoicing as new members joining Mason United Methodist Church! Hope you join us all on this journey toward the heart of God.

All Saints' Day Service: October 30th, 2022

We will be holding our All Saints' Day service next Sunday, October 30th. In preparation for this, we ask that you send Pastor Susan or the church office the names of any loved ones who have passed away since November, 2021.

GUESS WHAT?

We have been chosen to hold the Interfaith Celebration of Gratitude this year! What an honor!

Tuesday, November 22, 7:00-8:30pm

For decades, this annual gathering has brought together people of many faith traditions. This gathering has included participants from the Baha'i Faith, Buddhists, Roman Catholics, the Center for Spiritual Living, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Jewish people, Muslims, members of the Puyallup Tribe, Sufi, Unitarian Universalists, and other faith traditions.

After two years of virtual-only gathering, we will come together in person!

Hosting will be a whole lot of work, so we will need all hands on deck to volunteer. Please put this date on your calendar so you can help host and make an inviting atmosphere at Mason United Methodist Church. Let's show our neighbors what we are all about!

NEW WEBSITE

Pastor Susan has been working on Mason's website this summer. It is a work in progress, as Emma has been editing along with Susan.

No, it's not done, but we're getting there, and there's enough information for you to check it out and pass it on. In today's world, people find churches through the internet, so it is imperative that we present ourselves in ways that are inviting. Look it over. Remember it's a work in progress. And pass it on to your friends!

PASS THIS ON

Want to be a part of reviving Mason? Want to fill the sanctuary with folks who wish to live a meaningful life? There's one little thing you can do to help make that happen. It only takes seconds. Forward this newsletter to two people this week. Don't fear judgment. We're all judged no matter what we do; just do it. Just spread the Word without words.
