December 2021
Alumni and Community Newsletter
To say that 2021 was a year filled with ups and downs would be an understatement. With the hope of a "normal" 2021 fall semester with community events, athletic games, and relationship building, we started off strong. There were bumps in the road, but we made it to the end of the semester with only some adjustments needed.

Our alumni, community members, and business supporters showed us how important NHTI is to the community by continuing to be there for our students – offering internships, donating to scholarships, helping to fund equipment purchases, dropping off items for our food pantry, and so much more. This is why 2021 is a year of gratitude for me, even with the bumps in the road.

As we close out 2021, I want to thank you for your ongoing support of NHTI and our students. You are what makes us more than just a college, you make us part of a community. NHTI is your community college.

With gratitude,
Laura Scott

Alumni Spotlight
As part of our ongoing series that highlights NHTI alumni, the following blog post is written by Matt Fish, who completed his Business Management and Marketing degrees in 2002.
Paramedic Emergency Medicine Program Receives Grant
We are excited and grateful to announce that $5,500 in funding needed to upgrade of our Paramedic Emergency Medicine program equipment has been awarded to NHTI by Bangor Savings Bank Foundation. This grant allows for the purchase of some needed equipment and its integration directly into instruction and skills training. The remaining equipment funds will rely on the generosity of business partners, local industry, and individual donors like you.

Student Loan Repayment
On Aug. 6, 2021, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced a final extension of the student loan payment pause until Jan. 31, 2022. If you’re struggling financially, you have multiple payment options when payment resumes on Jan. 31, 2022.
  • If you're worried you won’t be able to make your next payment after the payment suspension ends, you have options. ED offers a variety of income-driven repayment (IDR) plans based on your income. Under an IDR plan, payments may be as low as $0 per month.
  • If you’re unsure about your next payment amount, you can contact your loan servicer to confirm your upcoming payment amount. This info may be available online by logging in to your loan servicer’ s website. Call 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) for loan servicer info.

Who Knows the History of The Eye?

While cleaning out a storage area, staff came across a box of old Eye documents and historical records. The undated edition (left) from the 1980s shows attempts to name The Eye using clever rhymes ("We have no clue--/How about you?/We'll take you to dinner/If you pick a winner"). If you were involved with The Eye at the beginning and/or have older copies, contact Advisor Paula DelBonis-Platt – she would love to have more information about this time.
