Greetings!
I am proud to be an Angeleno.
It was this city that gave me my first taste of activism, where I went to Fairfax High and Cal State LA, and where I continue to be inspired by people from all walks of life and all parts of the world.
But our diversity cannot be taken for granted - because it is not guaranteed.
Hate crimes are at record highs. People of all backgrounds are facing more threats to their safety and community.
This is not the Los Angeles I know. The Los Angeles I know is a city where everyone can find belonging, where communities intersect to create something new and uniquely LA. As a city, we are not defined by race, religion, or creed, but by possibility and ambition.
This week is our first-ever LA For All Week, which we will celebrate with events, lightings, and solidarity - including at LA For All Day at the Wall Las Memorias in Lincoln Park. We will acknowledge our diversity, stand unified against hate, and connect with community-based organizations from across LA. I hope to see you there.
I am proud to be an Angeleno, and I'm proud to be your neighbor.
Keep the faith and keep the fight,
- Capri Maddox
Executive Director
Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department
