The Festival will include handbell choirs from Trinity United Church of Christ, Christ Presbyterian Church , and Faith United. Faith United's former organist, Heather Cooper, is the Festival Director. The combined handbell choirs will be directed by Cathy Mokelbust from South Dakota, who has composed several of the songs to be played. Each handbell choir also will share a song. “Read all about it!!”

Your Visioning Team has been keeping Pastor Steve busy in the print shop replenishing the table in the gathering area with “hot off the press” copies of the 2022 Visioning Summit Booklet.

“The ink hasn’t dried yet” on this year’s edition containing the goals, projects, and ideas from the Body of Christ called Faith United, inspired by the question “What is God calling us to do and be in the next 5 to 10 years?”

All of the goals and visions are “above the fold” in how they contribute to the mission of the church. We want our “circulation” and “distribution” to reach all of the members, friends and guests of Faith United.

The Visioning Team will be discerning with input from the congregation which goals God is calling us to follow at this time.

We look forward to your continued prayers, input and participation in the next steps in the visioning process:

  • November 12 – a first draft of the Team’s recommendation will be available in the Navigator for the church to review and provide feedback
  • November 27 – 30, the Visioning Team will finalize its proposal and send it via email to members of the Church Board and others
  • December 6, 6:30 pm – Church Board meets to discuss and vote on the proposal. Church Board meetings are open – anyone may attend and have voice, only Church Board members may vote. (in person/Zoom)

Visit the gathering area and pick up a copy of the Visioning Summit Booklet today!

Faith Friends Preschool & Learning Center News

We hosted our annual outdoor Fall Family Day on Friday, October 21. There were over 250 people in attendance, and it was beautiful weather!

Families came to participate in a variety of Fall themed activities, including: The North Canton Fire Department, fall photo booth, Halloween tattoos, pumpkin patch, and treats. Then, several church staff and church members volunteered for the “Trick-or-Treat Trail” to pass out candy to the children.

Our new activities this year included a pony named “Tony” for the children to pet, a hayride around the church, and a visit from “Patches” the dog! It was a fantastic event, and it was great to have the opportunity to interact with all of the families.

Faith and Environment Weekly

Coal power has resurged since the pandemic, like this coal processing plant in China.

Last year’s plan under-estimated what was needed and most countries have fallen behind even that inadequate plan.

New research shows that the world has already fallen drastically behind in adopting the changes needed to avoid a future with even more extreme storms, heat waves, and floods. Collectively, countries have promised to reduce heat-trapping emissions by about 3% by 2030, compared to 2020 levels. That's far from the 45% drop that's needed, according to a new report from the United Nations Environment Program.

Cutting emissions nearly in half by the end of the decade would put the world on track to limiting warming to 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit (1.5 degrees Celsius) by 2100. But at the current pace of emissions, the planet would heat up by 5 degrees Fahrenheit, leading to more deadly heat waves and storms and the flooding of coastal cities due to polar ice melt.  So, although strengthening national pledges is on the agenda for discussion at the upcoming Annual UN Conference Of the Parties (COP27) talks in Egypt, major emitters aren't expected to make dramatically larger commitments, and the European Union announced it could update its climate only after the negotiations are complete.

But there is a glimmer of good news: last year, the U.S. committed to reducing emissions 50-52% by 2030, a goal that was bolstered recently by the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which provides billions of dollars for electric cars and more efficient buildings and homes. "We want the COP to make sure that everybody understands we're doing the things necessary to keep 1.5 degrees alive," [1.5o is the agreed heat increase by 2030 - TBS] John Kerry said this week.

The Takeaway – Global warming is heating up faster than we thought. Now is the time for every country to step up to save our world.

Community Christmas

After a two-year absence, A Community Christmas of Stark County has fully reinstated their much-needed programs dedicated to making Christmas brighter for low-income Stark County residents. ACC wants to thank Faith United for its long-time support of volunteers, Adopt-A-Family and Coat Collection programs.

Adopt-A-Family

Nancy King is coordinating the Adopt-A-Family program for Faith United this year. Since we have not done this for a few years, it would help immensely for those who already know they want a family, to call Nancy King (330-639-8571) and let her know by November 13. This will help her to know how many families to order and what sizes, and have some to spare. Nancy will have a table in the Gathering Area the first 3 weeks of November to pick up adoption family information.

Winter Coat Collection

Sponsorship of the coat collection program has been transferred from A Community Christmas of Stark County to Refuge of Hope this year. Refuge of Hope is a faith-based, non-profit, Christian rescue mission providing multiple programs for the neediest residents of Stark County.

The coat collection program will be titled Layers of Hope, A Community Coat Drive layering men, women, and children in Stark County with warmth, love, and hope.

Your support is more important than ever as we look to re-establish and grow this important program. Collection includes new coats, lightly used clean coats, sweatshirts, jackets and other warm clothing and accessories. Collection boxes are located by the wooden bins in the gathering area and near Door #8 by the Family Life Center.
