MEN'S NIGHT SHELTER & RESPITE PROJECT UPDATE

A long-anticipated and sought-after (6+ years) project to improve the men's night shelter and respite space is underway and will be completed in October. The need for this project became more apparent and serious during the pandemic. We learn. We improve. We make a difference.

This project improves and increases the services and programming we provide through the men's shelter and respite focusing on better outcomes for our guests. It will also help support potential diversion center referrals experiencing homelessness. Thanks to these space improvements (new office, rooms, floor, etc.) there will be increased program and case management options, better safety and security, and improved recuperation possibilities.

This project was made possible by funding through the state of Indiana (IHCDA) and the City of Evansville Endowment Fund (CEEF). Thank you!
VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION

Many thanks to members of our UCS Board of Directors who spent a half day this past Saturday, September 24 at our women's shelter.

On this "fall fling" work day, they painted the upstairs bathrooms and trimmed and cleaned up outside. Great job! 👍
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Servant leaders wanted.

Be part of our great TEAM!

UCS needs volunteers for meals, guest services, office help, and program coverage. Will you help? Much of what we do is about being kind and compassionate to people. Let us know.
WELCOME NEW TEAM MEMBERS

A returning employee, and a passing of the torch (plunger) 😊

We welcome Hannah Roth as a new Case Manager / Team Leader. This is a newly created / combined role designed to help our guests attain better outcomes. Hannah is already providing valuable leadership and support for our night shelter guests as well as providing crossover support for our recuperative care program.
We welcome Aaron Cox as our new Operations Manager. Aaron is a wonderful addition to our UCS team. He is learning the ropes from Bob Shaner who has been a longtime UCS employee but will be retiring soon (Thanks, Bob!). Aaron is already doing an excellent job to keep our community of caring operating well.

As the MNSR renovation project concludes in October, the Diversion Center gets closer to opening, and our Zion House shared housing program becomes a reality in 2023, Hannah and Aaron will be part of these new adventures.

Care Team Members Needed

Care Team members are responsible for the successful front-line program operations of UCS across all of our program areas by assisting guests and volunteers in accessing UCS facilities and services. See this and/or other recent postings on Indeed! Let others know too. Thanks!
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

UCS is seeking a new Executive Director

Jason Emmerson, our current Executive Director, shared several weeks ago that he will be leaving UCS effective September 30 to pursue other professional opportunities. Our Board of Directors wishes to thank Jason for his seven years of strategic and thoughtful service. He has done an excellent job building and expanding the organization to further support our community of caring to provide high-quality shelter, services, and solutions that people need. Jason led our team to update, upgrade and expand several program services and spaces with a special effort toward the soon-to-open Diversion Center and housing solutions. Jason will be missed as he fully embraced our values of commitment, compassion, dignity, faith, integrity, passion, service, and unconditional love always acting as an active voice and advocate for those whom we serve. We wish him all the very best in his future endeavors.

~ Rev. Dr. Stephanie Weiner, Board President

P.S. Be on the lookout for our Executive Director position on INDEED (you will see it via the link above when it's posted) and elsewhere soon. We look forward to partnering with our next Executive Director on current and future endeavors that benefit and bless our community. Thank you.
