Murdy Elementary Students Inspired by Special Visitor

His Adidas walked through concert doors and roamed all across coliseum floors...and today they stepped on "stage" at Murdy Elementary School as Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Darryl McDaniels (aka DMC of Run-D.M.C.) visited the campus.

The visit was made possible thanks to an Instagram post by Murdy teacher Darlene Machacon about her students reading his book Darryl's Dream and the creative lesson planning built around it, which was noticed by DMC himself who decided to spend some time with the Murdy 3rd grade classes.

There was nothing 'tricky' about the inspirational words he shared with the students as he took time to talk to them about inspiring people, using their platform to help those in need, and treating people right. The students enjoyed asking him questions about everything from his love of comics to his love of music. He also touched on his career, which spans over three decades as a rapper, actor, and now a writer of children's books as well as comic books, and even kicked a few of the rhymes that helped make him the King of Rock!

He closed it out with this message for the students: "Today is all about and should only ever be about you!...You have a purpose and a destiny!"

Evans Students Enjoy Reading to Canine Companions

Evans Elementary School partnered with Orange County Animal Allies to improve student reading through the organization's Canine Literacy Project. Evans students loved reading to their new furry friends!

Paine Elementary Students Soar to New Heights

Paine Elementary School students used the windy day to their advantage. There’s pure joy in flying a kite, and many Paine students were introduced to this classic childhood activity for the first time at Paine’s Kite Day. There’s nothing quite like spending a breezy day outside, laughing with friends.

Riverdale Students Learn Sign Language

Riverdale Elementary CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) students Josie and Kaela Torres and three hard of hearing students have inspired American Sign Language classes at Riverdale Elementary. Over 50 students are enrolled in the ASL after-school program that meets twice a week. Students incorporate the new language they are learning into their classrooms and use it to communicate with friends and staff. We are so proud of Riverdale students for fostering an inclusive school environment.

Allen Elementary Students Take to the Stage

With two separate casts, Allen Elementary School's talented students took to the stage March 31-April 2 with an impressive production of Disney's Aladdin musical! The performance was part of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts program awarded to select schools across Orange County through an application process.
