Dear CCSD families and Chillicothe community,

Happy September! I hope your family has found success in getting back into school routines and preparing for another enriching school year. Our staff members are back in full swing as well, planning exciting events and programs for our students. As we dive into the 2022-2023 school year, please remember to update your Final Forms to ensure that we have up-to-date information for your student. This information is necessary for students to participate in extracurricular activities throughout the year.

The first parent-teacher conferences of the year were held on September 22, which were successful in helping our staff and families connect to identify learning and growth opportunities for students. Chillicothe Primary School held their first Pasta, Presentations and Parents event, promoting programs throughout the school and educating families while also providing a free dinner. As a district, we value working with our families to ensure all students receive the best education for their individual needs.

As we continue to work with our families and the community to ensure the ongoing safety of our students and staff, we have held meetings to discuss the potential of updating our safety policies. I spoke with the Chillicothe Gazette recently about these meetings and our established safety procedures, which are reviewed and updated annually. Keeping our students safe while they are in our care or participating in our programs is always a priority, and we look forward to working with our resource officers and local law enforcement to continue this commitment to providing a safe learning environment for everyone in the district.

Student & Family Wellness Update

This month’s student & family wellness update from CCSD Social Worker Leslie Hamman focuses on the differences between ADHD and anxiety symptoms in your student. According to the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC), about 3 in 10 children with ADHD also have anxiety. Know how to help your child if they are struggling with these symptoms.

As part of Chillicothe City School’s wellness program, Leslie offers parent support groups on the second Tuesday of each month from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Atwood District Office Conference Room. Each month’s meeting focuses on the topics outlined in these blogs. Reach out to Leslie at Leslie.Hamman@ccsd.us or attend a support group to learn more tips for supporting your student.

Mt. Logan Community Garden Update

Our community garden at the Mt. Logan Learning Center is thriving as students return to the classroom! Our preschool students are utilizing the garden as part of their curriculum to explore and understand the world around them, and community members can come to the garden any day after 4 p.m. to collect their own free produce. In a couple of weeks, fencing will be installed around the garden and the City of Chillicothe’s Parks and Recreation Department will be adding sidewalks to the garden for ADA compliancy. Make sure to check out the garden before the end of fall!
