never limit others because of your own limited imagination."

One Year Later...
Thank you for persevering with us!
THANK YOU!
...for a year of virtual service due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As we pass the one-year mark from closing campus last March, everyone at CSSA wants to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your patience, dedication and perseverance as we shifted to virtual service and advocacy. Because of your work and your compassion, we were able to reach hundreds of students and several community partners through all of our virtual service opportunities.

Countless JCU students found avenues to continue advocacy and social justice work amidst the pandemic. By providing support through reading books to elementary students, promoting change through social media and political activism, and writing letters to the sick, elderly, and incarcerated, you all stepped up to support your community in a time of hardship and need, and we are grateful for all you do.

Until we can return to our full operations, keep on persevering.

Onward on, John Carroll!

New Podcast Episode!
LTM Ep. 12: Building a Steady Foundation
Dr. Jim Krukones, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at John Carroll, joins Delaney and Caroline on this episode of Living the Mission to discuss his role as a “Builder.” Their discussion draws attention to the influence of all the different members of the JCU community on executing the mission. The builder is the person who develops, organizes and executes the ideas – the person who tends to actually get things done – in the service of a collective vision. They also discuss the importance of giving a quick and authentic apology so that we can rebuild from mistakes with others to move forward. All of this, of course, builds a trust in the process of living the mission.

Our #MyMagisMessage for the week comes from Ally Fritsch, a senior Sociology major and Theology minor from Toledo, Ohio! Ally has served with Hope Alliance, Joseph's Home, 123 Read, Youth for Justice, Noble Elementary, Thomas Jefferson International Newcomer's Academy, Lincoln-West School of Global Studies, and Fatima Tutoring.

If you had to state your life mission off the top of your head, in one sentence, what would it be?
To build communities rooted in love and to break down barriers of hatred and exclusion.

#MyMagisMessage
Throughout my time at John Carroll and being a part of weekly service, I have constantly been faced with the question: what do we do with service once it has ended?
Weekly service can make you feel so small sometimes. You have one semester to encounter marginalized communities and see social issues first hand. What do we do with this?

Something I have had to come to terms with is that we do not do service to solve problems. Weekly service is not going to end homelessness, or poverty, or racism, or immigration. But each time we take part in service, we are breaking down barriers. We are humanizing people we may never have interacted with. We are looking beyond stereotypes and harmful narratives. We are giving people a reason to have hope, even if that person is us. We are building relationships and communities.

These are not small things.

Living out magis to me is using my gifts for the betterment of our world and for the glory of God.

Service gives me the gifts, education, and stories to allow me to help change narratives, to change communities. Whether this is through pursuing a year of service after graduation or simply having conversations with people.

Nothing we do is too small for God to make a difference with.
