Tumacácori National Historical Park

Tumacácori is a cultural crossroads in Arizona’s Santa Cruz River valley where O’odham, Yaqui and Apache people lived until European Jesuit and Franciscan missionaries, settlers, and soldiers arrived.

"The cultural and natural resources at Tumacácori National Historical Park tell an important story about local Native American communities and the intersection with Spanish exploration, as well as the human connection to the desert lands of southern Arizona,” says Mike Medrano, Superintendent.

Just down the street from Wisdom's, our national park is a wonder and hosts numerous special events throughout the year.

Entrance to the park costs $10 per adult, free for federal pass holders and children under 16. For more information, call 520-377-5060 or visit

www.nps.gov/tuma

For more information about park events and activities, call Tumacácori National Historical Park at 520-377-5060, or visit the park website, at nps.gov/tuma

CANOA HERITAGE AREA

Hatch! Bloom! Soar! Canoa!

April brings a special kind of energy to the Canoa Heritage Area

The raptors and hummingbirds are hatching, the wildflowers and cactus are blooming, and this year Space X launch sightings are another attraction that can be enjoyed in our big Southern Arizona skies!

The weather is perfect to hit the trails! There are hundreds of miles to explore in the Canoa Heritage Area, many of our attractions offer guided hikes for birding and watchable wildlife adventures.

Friends of Madera Canyon have a great hiking map and updates on what’s happening in our crown jewel of the Santa Rita’s.

Friends of Buenos Aries Wildlife Refuge are seeing activity of

White-faced Ibises in Triangle Pond!

You can’t go wrong hiking along the Anza Trail!

 Capture your cosmic curiosity!

There are two World-class observatories in the Canoa Heritage Area, and many of our communities are taking advantage

of our dark skies to host star parties!

Kitt Peak is very much alive during the daylight hours and offers

a variety of activities to enjoy. Check out these options for options for Day-time visits and Night-time Programs.

While the Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory’s visitor

center is closed for renovations; they are hosting a

lecture series to keep you engaged!

I was asked to share with you that rat poison is killing animals that eat the rats that have ingested the poison. (Round Up is another killer of our pets and wildlife).

Please consider finding another way to handle your rat problem in order to protect your sweet pets and our beautiful wildlife. And many have successfully gardened organically for 25 years without ever using weed or insect killers by attracting birds (tall water fountain and never birdseed) and by planting native plants that attract natural predators. Pulling weeds after it rains is also most effective!

Here is a link to some non-poison ideas for rat problems:
