Railroad Hobby Show - update

We're celebrating... @ the Railroad Hobby Show

2025 marks two very special anniversaries in the model railroad hobby. Lionel Trains turns 125 years old, and the National Model Railroad Association marks it’s 90th birthday.

Wow - what extraordinary contributions these two organizations have made to the hobby. So, we’re celebrating - cake, singing, special displays, give-aways - it’s all happening at the Railroad Hobby Show.

And, a rumor, too - Lenny, Lionel’s famous mascot, may be at the show - in person. Maybe...

So, warm up your vocal chords and get ready to sing along as we wish Lionel and the NMRA a very happy birthday at the Railroad Hobby Show.

Women In Model Railroading @ the Railroad Hobby Show

Women in Model Railroading (WIMRR) will play a significant role at the 2025 Railroad Hobby Show.

On Saturday evening, January 25, 2025, WIMRR will host a special model railroad operating session on the Dry Hill Model Railroad in the Mallary Building. The event will give women (of all ages) a chance to learn more about the hobby, meet other women that share their interest, and just plain have fun running trains.

The event will run from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Then, on Sunday morning, January 26, 2025 at 10:30 am, WIMRR will sponsor an educational session in the Clinic Room in the Young Building. The Women In Model Railroading SIG will be explained, plus there will be an opportunity to meet women that are leaders in the railroad and model railroad industries.

If you are interested in participating in either the operations session on Saturday evening, or the educational session on Sunday morning, or both, please contact Michelle Kempema at: michellekempema@gmail.com

You can also register for the Saturday night operating session or the Sunday morning educational session at the NMRA booth in the Better Living Center.

So, what's a train show without a train ride...??

For the last three years, we’ve been working with CTrail to provide trains rides for the Kids ON TRACK program and the Northeast Large Scale Train Show. This year we are adding train rides to the Railroad Hobby Show.

We are calling the program the Railroad Hobby Show Rail-Pass. For $10, you can ride all day on any CTrail trains between Springfield, Massachusetts and New Haven, Connecticut. For kids 12 and under, the pass is only $2, And, kids 2 and under, ride free.

Tickets can be purchased on-line, or at the CTrail booth at the Railroad Hobby Show.

The Railroad Hobby Show offers a free shuttle service between Springfield Union Station and the Eastern States Exposition fairgrounds on Saturday January 25 and Sunday January 26.

Please note: the Railroad Hobby Show Rail-Pass is not valid on Amtrak trains.

The Raffle @ the Railroad Hobby Show

Add this to your to-do list at the Railroad Hobby Show - the Raffle Table! Because... it's the best it has ever been. The list of raffle items is extraordinary.

Belt Lines @ the Railroad Hobby Show

On Saturday and Sunday, January 25 & 26, 2025, the Amherst Belt Lines will have a modular model railroad running at the Railroad Hobby Show in West Springfield, Massachusetts.

Traditionally, the Belt Lines has had one of the largest model railroads running at the show, and that will be true again this year. The railroad features freight, passenger, and local switching operations, as well as the large Conn River classification yard.

If you are interested in participating in this event, please contact the Belt Lines coordinators at: amherstbeltlines@amherstrail.org. Being part of the show is a great opportunity to learn more about modular model railroading, and meet people with valuable modeling experience.

When you think of G-scale outdoor railroads, we tend to think - garden, right? Well, that’s probably true in most cases. But, not the Tatham Hill Railroad.
