FALCON ATHLETICS

Upcoming Home Athletics Events

Thursday 2/9 - The 5th grade Girls white basketball team kicks off their season at SFX @ 5PM, followed by 5th gold @5:45PM and 6A @6:30pm - all against Visitation. I'm sure there will be something special cooking in concessions!

Friday 2/10 - February Madness Invitational

The 6th grade boys 32 team single elimination February Madness Invitational (FMI) continues this weekend with the Elite 8 Friday and Final Four/Championship games on Saturday. This tournament was a mainstay at SFX from the early 1970s through the early 1990s with many you reading this having played in the event in your athletic careers. We are aware of only one Falcons championship in the storied history of the tournament as we found this relic circa 1992 in the catacombs beneath St. Francis covering the David vs. Goliath story.

Last weekend we hosted 24 games over 3 days in the 2023 "re-inaugural" event with our 6B team winning their first game before being eliminated in the Sweet 16 Sunday by a tough Most Holy Redeemer A team. The SFX 6A team won both games last weekend and will continue their run against St. Mike's from Orland Park on Friday at 5:10PM in the Elite 8 at SFX. Dare I say we PACK THE PLACE THIS FRIDAY!!!!! Come cheer on your Falcons and stay for the remaining 3 games to see who makes it to the Final Four on Saturday (Times TBD).

And in other news the Super Bowl is Sunday...It doesn't get any better than this!!!!

Check out this old article. It's a great piece of Falcon Athletics history!

Falcon Alumni... Do you know what year it's from?...

NOTE from Mrs. Amy Ryan, our SFX Technology Coordinator: "Many of our SFX parents will remember hearing Dr. Devorah Heitner speak about technology and our "digital natives". SFX has had her host a virtual session last winter and also a standing-room-only event in January 2020. As part of the Glenbard Parent Speaker Series, Dr. Heitner is speaking on helping our kids navigate online privacy in an ever more public world."

AMAZON IS ENDING THE AMAZONSMILE CHARITABLE DONATION PROGRAM ON 2/20/23*

Dear charitable organization,

In 2013, we launched AmazonSmile to make it easier for customers to support their favorite charities. We were excited about the potential for the program and the impact it could have for many charitable organizations. We want to thank you for your partnership during all these years.

After almost a decade of running AmazonSmile, we learned that with so many eligible organizations—more than 1 million globally—our ability to have an impact was often spread too thin.

Over the past few years, we’ve seen that Amazon can have a more significant and lasting impact if we invest in specific areas and focus our philanthropic efforts in the communities where our employees live and work. We’ve started to see the benefits of a more focused approach with our investments in programs like Amazon Future Engineer and our $2 billion investment in building affordable housing in our hometown communities through the Amazon Housing Equity Fund—and we will continue to pursue and invest in other areas where we’ve seen we can make meaningful change.

We are writing to let you know that we have made plans to wind down AmazonSmile by February 20, 2023. Until this date, customer purchases made via AmazonSmile will continue to accrue funds for your charity as normal.

We will keep supporting thousands of charities across the U.S. in many ways, and focus on the areas we believe can help create an even greater impact. Our long-term commitment to our communities remains the same: We are determined to help create a better world for our customers, our employees, and the communities we serve across the country.

Thank you,

AmazonSmile Team

*Thank you sincerely to all of the families who have supported St. Francis Xavier Parish & School through the AmazonSmile program. We are sad to see the program end.
