Deadline: Sept 30. Templates at Monona Library or submit online at tinyurl.com/youthzineproject.

"The kind of change we are after is cellular as well as institutional. is personal and intimate, is collective as well as cultural. We are making love synonymous with justice." - Prentis Hemphill

All summer long, you have shared your reflections on this Prentis Hemphill quote. What images does it bring to mind? What colors? What does change look, feel, sound, and smell like? What is the root of our work together?

Local artist, Maria Schirmer Devitt, has been gathering all of your ideas and forming them into a vision. Now it's your turn to help make it a reality! On August 13, we will be making a painted community quilt. Using spray paint and acrylic paint we will create a reminder of how we are all connected to one another. This quilt will be on display in the library.

Stop by anytime between 1-3 pm. Maria will lead you through supplies and techniques then you will have open time to experiment and create. *Come wearing clothes that can get paint on them (the paint is not washable).
ADULTS
Friday Morning Book Group
This program focuses on thought-provoking and enjoyable reads in a variety of genres, including both fiction and non-fiction. This is a casual, drop-in group, so please join us when you can! Regular print, large print, and book on CD copies will be available at the library one month before the book discussion.

Every Third Friday, 10-11:30 am
TWEENS & TEENS
Monona Public Library has partnered with local artist Rachel Werner (Founder & Creative Director of The Little Book Project, WI; food writer extraordinaire) to produce our first youth-led zine (self-published magazine). The published zine will be available at the library and other organizations in the community to take.

"We Will Not Be Silenced" This title is used to express that youth voices are important in our community and should be heard. The use of "we" is to show that this is coming from us, THE Youth Voice. We are trying to tell the public that even if we are shut down of our ideas, we will continue to fight for a say in our community.

The amazing thing about zines is ANYONE can submit to them with your own unique interests and skills. Not sure what to submit? Here's some ideas: Art/illustration, poetry, personal essay, short story, collage, recipe, word search, crossword, photography, coloring page, journal prompt, etc.

Want to submit your work? Stop in the library to grab a template page (should be submitted on an 8x5 sheet), or upload your work online at: tinyurl.com/youthzineproject. Deadline: September 30.
Do you have ideas in your head for stories but never had the chance to put them down in writing? Then join us this summer for a writing workshop with experienced writers from the UW Greater Madison Writers Project who make writing fun! Even if you’ve never written before, you will learn how to write stories in fun ways! *All writing levels/abilities/styles welcome!
