NHMA Leadership Fellowship


The NHMA Leadership Fellowship is a training program for U.S.-licensed physicians at least 5 years out of training with significant leadership experience who are committed to the work of improving public health. Fellows will participate in weekly virtual training with expert speakers from May through July 2023, as well as a 5-day Washington, D.C. Institute in September. Fellows will also present policy papers at NHMA’s Annual Conference in 2024.The application deadline is February 17, 2023.

Learn more about the nationwide coalition of advocacy leaders working together to advance health equity and eliminate barriers to care and treatment for obesity and other chronic diseases.

Legislative Update


NHMA is proud to have supported several advocacy activities at the state and federal levels over the past month to improve the wellbeing of Hispanic healthcare professionals and patients across the country.

  • On January 26, 2023, the NHMA Texas Chapter and our partner Texas Doctors for Social Responsibility (TDSR) hosted their fifth annual public health policy forum, ‘Gun Violence: A Preventable Public Health Epidemic.’ NHMA applauds NHMA Board Member and Texas Chapter Co-Chair Dr. Bert Johansson as well as Texas Chapter Co-Chair and TDSR President and Board Chair Dr. Jaime Estrada for convening health experts, public officials, and community leaders for a powerful discussion on advancing collective action.
