Labor Day City Holiday Hours and Services

In observance of Labor Day, all City of Garland offices, utility customer service and tax offices, libraries, recreation centers and senior centers will be closed Monday, Sept. 6. 

The Charles M. Hinton Landfill and City of Garland Transfer Station and Recycling Center also will be closed.

Garbage, recycling, and brush and bulky pickup schedules will not be impacted.

Firewheel Golf Park will remain open and operate its usual hours all weekend.
75th Annual Labor Day Parade Monday, Sept. 6

The 75th annual Labor Day parade and festivities, presented by the Noon Exchange Club of Garland, will take place Monday, Sept. 6.

The parade will start at 9 a.m. on Glenbrook Drive at Avenue D. It will run north to Main Street, then east to Fifth Street and north on Fifth Street. It will end at Fifth and Austin streets.

After the parade, enjoy the Rock & Roll Car Show with antique and custom cars from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Downtown Square. All cars are welcome; register upon arrival.

There will also be a karaoke contest with cash prizes in the Plaza Theatre. In addition, there will be various booths for kids and adults, including face painting, balloons and food vendors.
Fire Department Earns American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Award
For the eighth year in a row, the Garland Fire Department has received a Mission: Lifeline EMS Recognition Award from the American Heart Association. This award is for implementing specific quality improvement measures to treat patients who suffer severe heart attacks.

For its continued mastery of performance standards, the department was recognized with the Gold Plus Award for 2021.

Preservation Society for Spring Creek Forest Meeting Sept. 7

Join guest speaker Rick Travis for a virtual talk on invasive trees from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7.

Travis will share how invasive trees are a threat to the native north Texas trees in the Preserve.

Make Your Mark Live Concert: Moses Uvere
No. 1 charting Christian/hip-hop recording artist and Garland native Moses Uvere will perform at the first Make Your Mark Live concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at the Plaza Theatre, 521 W. State St.

This free live concert is presented by the City of Garland Cultural Arts Department and hosted by 106.5 FM’s Joe Rich with Chad Evans and Thomas Nunes.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Show begins at 5 p.m.

Big Art Day Saturday, Sept. 18

Fourth Annual Garland Guzzler 0.5K Race Saturday, Sept. 25
Race around the historic Downtown Square at the City's annual Garland Guzzler 0.5K Race on Saturday, Sept. 25!

This physically demanding 😉 and mentally strenuous 😉 race known as The Garland Guzzler 0.5K will be taking place, live and in-person, for its fourth year!

After you finish the race, stay for the Oktoberfest-themed party with live music, Oktoberfest games and, of course, food and drinks.

COVID-19 Vaccines, Boosters Available at Garland's Public Health Clinic

You can get the COVID-19 vaccine without an appointment at our Public Health Clinic, 206 Carver Drive, between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Garland Health Department is now providing boosters for the COVID-19 vaccine to those the declared eligible by the Centers for Disease Control. Those considered moderately to severely immunocompromised are eligible to receive a third dose of Pfizer or Moderna. A third dose registration form and eligibility information are available at GarlandTX.gov.

Flu Shots Now Available at Garland's Public Health Clinic

The Garland Public Health Clinic, 206 Carver Drive, has received its first shipment of vaccine for the 2021-22 flu season.

Flu shots are available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays for adults, children and seniors who are insured.
 
Call 972-205-3370 for pricing and to learn what insurance plans are accepted. Low-cost flu vaccines for uninsured children and adults will be in soon!

Cultural Arts Commission Grant Applications
Sept. 17
Applications for the Garland Cultural Arts Commission's 2021-22 Grant Program may be picked up at the Granville Arts Center Box Office, 300 N. Fifth St., between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applications are due to the Granville Arts Center Friday, Sept. 17. Follow-up interviews will take place Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Granville Arts Center. For more information, call 972-205-2780.
COVID-19 Updates
As of Thursday, Sept. 2, the Garland Health Department has received reports of 2,521 active cases out of 34,802 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 488 deaths. The City updates its posted case numbers each Monday and Thursday.
