Only 1 in 5 public schools in California has a dedicated teacher for arts programs.

But here in Moraga, our schools have traditional art and music programs as well as newer programs like digital art, coding, video production, photography, and more. This is only because of support from MEF donors like you. Thank you!

Music and Art at Elementary Schools:
Music Classes
Your MEF donations make it possible for our elementary schools to have credentialed music teachers. These teachers help build a foundation of music knowledge that kids build on each year, learning to play instruments in fourth and fifth grade or singing in the choir.
"For me, teaching music in Moraga is special because I get to witness each child grow as they travel from kindergarten through fifth grade. Because of the nature of music class - singing songs, playing music games, doing folk dances - we develop a strong sense of community."

Art
Students have weekly art classes taught by a credentialed art teacher where they can be creative and inventive, all while improving fine motor skills, language skills, and social skills.
Ms. Morris is the new art teacher at Moraga elementary schools. She grew up in Lamorinda and was a student at Camino Pablo. She received her Masters in Education from St. Mary's and her capstone project was designing an inclusive art curriculum that highlights diverse artists. She creates her own art, mostly illustration and graphic design.

"I think one of the most important things students can learn as they explore art is how to problem solve and take risks. As teachers, we are preparing these students to be citizens of the world where these skills are crucial. Art offers flexible outcomes, and because we celebrate difference in the finished project (every student/artist is different!) children learn that there is more than one way to do things, and that encourages them to express themselves freely."

Band, Orchestra, & Chorus
Thanks to your MEF donations, middle school students have the opportunity to continue their music education in Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Orchestra, or Chorus.
The mental benefits of music education are clear, but there are also social benefits. Music requires teamwork and collaboration - important 21st-century skills.

Art
Sixth graders who take Wheel as their elective take Art. In 7th and 8th grade, students can take Artmaking or other electives like ceramics, design & modeling, yearbook design, or video production & animation. Your donations fund art teachers and electives at JM.
"Art is the expression of life and a way to open yourself up to the world."

"Thanks to MEF donors, our music teachers have the opportunity to teach without having to sacrifice valuable instructional/learning time to find resources. You are the reason we are Campo Instrumental Music in its current form: strong, vibrant, and with students who have a great foundational understanding of musical knowledge and skill."

Art
MEF donations make all kinds of art possible - from traditional art (Art 1 & 2; Advanced Art; Advanced Art Honors; Independent Art Portfolio; AP Studio Art; and AP Art History) to new forms of art (Photo/Digital Design; Digital Photography Advanced; AP Studio Art: 2D Photo; and Video Production 1, 2, & 3).
Your MEF donations fund items like art supplies, art display walls, camera and video equipment, new computers, and special projects.
Your donations also make it possible for art students to participate in the Memory Project. Last year, they produced portraits for orphans in Nigeria, and this year they will produce portraits for Ukrainian children affected by the war.

These music and art programs are made possible thanks to donors like YOU!
