UUC’s Second Sunday Plate collections serve as a direct expression of our faith through justice and service work. This month's Second Sunday Plate will go to the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation (UIATF).
Founded in 1970, UIATF, based at the Daybreak Star Indian Culture Center in Seattle’s Discovery Park, provides a broad range of culturally responsive services and programming to Seattle and King County’s urban Native community. [Continue reading]

Please join this meeting in person or via Zoom to meet some of the K-1 OWL facilitators, get the schedule, and learn more about the curriculum. Pink Haven Coalition Meeting

At our meeting after the second service, UUC's Pink Haven Coalition team will discuss discuss next steps given the robust attendance at our December meeting and the wide range of interests, talents and other resources that were suggested and offered.
The Pink Haven Coalition is a national coalition responding to the treatment of trans and non-binary individuals who need gender-affirming care. The UUC group is part of this effort, in partnership with UUSC, to create a support network for trans/non-binary individuals and their families who must travel outside their home environments to continue receiving care.

Welcome to UUC Staff, Teddy! |
I am delighted to announce the hire of Teddy MacQuarrie, who will join UUC staff as the Family Ministry Coordinator. Teddy brings a background in education, ministry, and teen mental health support. You can read a little bit more about him below. Teddy’s job here at UUC is part-time and includes things like administrative support for Family Ministry and assisting with special events like Chalice Camp, Parent Night Out, and Faith in Action Days. Update on Custodial Staffing
Please join me in welcoming Miguel Del Valle as our new weekday Custodian! Miguel began training this week as part of our UUC Custodial Team. He will work Sunday through Thursday from 2-10 p.m. to keep our facilities clean, set up rooms for meetings and events, assist groups with in-room technology for presentations and Zoom programs, keep an eye on who’s coming and going, and secure the building at night.
Miguel is the son of our long-time Friday/Saturday afternoon and evening custodian, Jorge del Valle. Jorge referred Miguel to us and gave him a good review about UUC! [Continue reading]

Wednesday Forum: Combatting the Current Rise of Totalitarianism

On January 15, Tom and Susan Cunningham will lead a discussion of the talking points presented in Timothy Snyder's book On Tyranny, with all who care to offer their examples and ideas on the subject. The author, a Yale Professor of History who specializes in Central and Eastern Europe, posits that the new threats faced by our political order are not unlike the totalitarianism of the 20th century, and asks whether we can learn from that experience. UUC's Wise Women Connecting group welcomes all UUC members and friends who identify as women and are in retirement, or contemplating retirement as a new phase of life.

New Art Exhibit: David Orrin Smith

All are invited to meet our next artist, David Orrin Smith, at an Artist Reception on Sunday, January 19. Refreshments will be served.
Smith has been drawing and painting his entire life. His current focus is plein air watercolor landscapes, graphite portraiture, as well as a variety of other media, subjects and scale. Kenmore Senior Women’s Shelter: Thank You for Your Generosity |
As a result of your generous donations during December and the Christmas Eve services, we have collected over $3,600 to donate to Lake City Partners Ending Homelessness (LCP) in support of their Kenmore Senior Women’s Shelter. This new shelter serves very low-income retirement-age women who are community-minded, socially stable, and without chronic mental or physical health issues or substance abuse issues. LCP provides a full array of services, and staff work with residents to provide a pathway into shared housing solutions. [Continue reading]

Hundreds of Volunteers Needed for Asylum Legal Clinic

Several hundred volunteers are needed to help over 200 asylum seekers get their applications completed in just one day. This legal clinic is a joint collaboration—the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, the Riverton Park United Methodist Church legal team, Colectiva Legal del Pueblo, and the Jewish Coalition for Immigrant Justice Northwest.
In light of the November elections, it's a meaningful way to spend MLK Day and to focus on Beloved Community on inauguration day. [Continue reading]

The UUC Care Team serves people in the UUC community when they encounter illness, grief, medical events, and other life issues. We all need a little help sometimes. If you find yourself needing a listening ear or a little help, please email the Care Team or leave a message on our confidential voicemail at (206) 454-7722. We are trained lay volunteers. We check for messages twice daily and keep your information confidential.

Current health safety protocols at UUC: Facemasks are optional but welcomed, especially while singing. For the well-being of everyone in our community, please STAY HOME if you have cold or flu-like symptoms, even if you're sure it’s "just a cold."
UUC monitors Public Health – Seattle & King County COVID-19 data dashboards and advisories, updating our health safety protocols accordingly. We also consult CDC About COVID-19 resources to inform our decisions. We additionally track Washington State Department of Public Health Resources and Recommendations for Business and Workers for guidance around COVID-19 safeguards for staff and visitors.
Please continue to check in at a kiosk or on the paper sign-in sheet when entering the building. This helps us better understand attendance on Sundays and for programs and meetings throughout the week. If you would like to be added to our email list for church-wide announcements, please include your email address and phone number on the paper sign-in sheet.
