First Annual Golf Tournament Was Fun for All

Our first Alumni Golf Tournament was a big success with 22 teams participating from across the years. Led by our Golf Committee to the right (Tony Waits, Kim Barber, Paul Fisher and Bobby Schiavone), over $8,000 was raised to support Alumni Association projects

Above, other participants included the fabulous Painchaud sisters - Louise Painchaud Petro, her daughter, Diane Painchaud and Suzanne Painchaud Juhl.

Alumni Welcome Faculty and Staff Back to School

Cathy Mitchell Paiml Wins 2023 Ms. Senior Alabama Pageant

The new Ms. Senior Alabama has had an interesting path to achieving this award. After graduating from Ballard, Kathy earned an Associates Degree at U of L and worked at Ford and Brown-Forman for a few years as a secretary and office manager. She then stayed home for the next ten years to be a full-time mom.

In 1996, she went back to school at the University of Memphis and earned a Bachelors in Education and started teaching elementary school at the age of 38. She pursued a Masters and two other certifications while teaching for ten years, then went on to be assistant principal and finally principal in elementary schools in Alabama. Along the way, she successfully beat breast cancer, too.

Kathy retired in 2021 during Covid and looked for a new mountain to climb. She discovered the Ms. Senior Alabama pageant and thought that might be a fun new challenge. While preparing for her first run at the title in 2021, she spent time volunteering at a school for adults with developmental disabilities and served as a coach for the Miracle League and as a volunteer for Downs Syndrome of Alabama.

Kathy finished as First Runner Up in both 2021 and 2022, but won the title in 2023. While not someone with a pageant past, Kathy says that she has really enjoyed the new friendships she has made along the way and looks forward to competing in the Ms. Senior World competition in 2024.

Kathy, your willingness to reinvent yourself and test your limits is an inspiration to all, and your smile is just as bright as it was at Ballard all these years ago. Congratulations!

Sign Up Here for a Guided Tour of Ballard's Exciting New Academy Programs

There have been many changes in recent years to high school education here in Louisville with the introduction of the Academy approach to learning. Ballard's four Academies -- Business Services, STEM, Media Arts and Visual & Performing Arts -- provide our students with training that until recently was only available in post-secondary environments.

The Alumni Association has sponsored two alumni tours thus far, led by Dr. Neuss, that have been exceptionally well received. Comments like these are coming back to us:

"As a 2005 alumnus of Ballard, I had not returned to campus in quite some time. The opportunity to tour BHS with Principal Neuss brought back feelings of pride and happiness as I walked the halls and saw first-hand the numerous areas of progress BHS has made over the years. Going forward, I hope to be more involved with Ballard's continuous progress and success. -- Mahammad Kahn

"I recently had the opportunity to tour Ballard with Dr. Neuss and other alumni. I was highly impressed! There are exciting new classes offered and great renovations that have been done to the school. The students are so lucky to have dedicated staff and alumni helping to make their school great. I really enjoyed learning about the house system as well. Take the time and tour BHS!"

-- Ginnie Meredith

Our next tour is scheduled for October 3. If you would like to receive an invitation to participate in one of these small-group tours, just click the button below. We'll get back to you with options when tour dates are firmed up.
