A Message from SCC Superintendent
As you receive this newsletter you will likely be taking final exams and wondering how you will complete your assignments before the semester ends December 17th.

While you may feel stressed about finals, there is good news: You are completing the semester! Many students were not able to complete this semester as the impact of COVID, family obligations and employment changes meant making hard choices. Some of you may not be completing all of the courses you enrolled in and are concerned about making progress towards your goal. I want to tell you that it’s OK, you can get back on track and complete your courses and program, and we will be here to help you.

If you are graduating this semester, congratulations! Watch for information in the mail about the spring graduation ceremony scheduled for May 26, 2022. Make sure your mailing address is updated in MySolano. If you will be enrolling in the spring, we look forward to having you back. We will continue our vaccinate or test and wear a mask mandate for those coming to campus for classes or services. We will send additional information on how to provide proof of vaccination and negative test results in January. We hope to make the compliance process easier for students.

We are offering more in-person classes and services in the spring and will continue offering online instruction and services. As a reminder, in-person classes are those that have any or all class sessions (lectures, labs, activities) on campus. Free COVID testing at the Fairfield campus will continue in the spring semester and we plan to host another COVID vaccine clinic at one or more of our campuses once the spring semester begins. You can find details about COVID and our protocols at https://welcome.solano.edu/coronavirus/
If you plan to enroll in spring classes, we encourage you to do so before December 27 or after January 3rd when MySolano will be available. Our campus and our communication systems (email, phones, Canvas) will be down from December 27-January 3 as we relocate our communication systems to a new building . You will also want to check Canvas for your fall grades between December 23-27 and after January 3. Our social media pages and our home page will be available and we will respond to urgent questions submitted through those sites.

On behalf of all of us at SCC, we applaud you for all you have accomplished this semester and wish you a restful and safe winter break.
Enroll Now for Spring Classes
Spring priority registration is underway.

Check your registration date on MySolano. SCC will be offering more on ground classes this spring, so for those of you who prefer in-person classes, the college will offer several more options. Check out our spring class schedule!

A reminder to those who will be coming to in-person classes; either upload your vaccination status or get tested (see updated information on testing below). This requirement went into effect October 15. If you uploaded your vaccination record this fall, you will not need to do it again in the spring.

Watch the SCC website and Canvas for information on uploading proof of vaccine and test results for the spring semester.

Congrats to All-USA Academic Nominees
A big shout-out to two SCC students who have been selected to represent Solano Community College as nominees in the 2021-2022 All-USA Academic Team competition. Andrea Solis (photo on right) and Cherry Santo were both nominated for the All-USA / Coca-Cola Academic Team.

Their commitment to academic excellence and community service is commendable. They will now be placed in competition for the All-USA Academic Team, Coca-Cola Academic Team, and the New Century Pathway Scholarship Awards. Phi Theta Kappa will notify scholars of their placement on national teams by April 2022.

Solis said she is so happy she chose to pursue her education at SCC. "After SCC I hope to gain some type of hands-on experience after completing my associates in an internship or a part time job related to engineering," she said. "My plans also include transferring to a 4-year-university and earning a Bachelor's in Civil/Environmental Engineering. After earning my bachelors I would love to have the opportunity to go to grad school and obtain a Master's in urbanism/city planning/sustainability/transportation and other topics related to civil engineering."

Solis is also thrilled to have been nominated for the All-USA Team. "I am very proud of this nomination and to be able to represent Solano along with Cherry. This nomination embodies many goals I set out to achieve while at Solano and it makes me happy to see that some of these personal achievements are considered worthy of this nomination. I hope that I can make the rest of the Solano community proud with the projects that I have worked on and I hope these projects continue to grow in the coming semesters."

Congratulations to both of you!
