Dear Normandale families,

Current French Immersion families who have an incoming kindergarten student for the 2022-23 school year will need to submit the Program Preference Form in order to receive Sibling Preference for Edina residents. The Preference Form will be available online soon and is due by 6:00pm on January 5. If you should have any questions about the process, please contact the Normandale office at 952-848-4100.

LES AMBASSADEURS TOY DRIVE

This year Normandale’s student leadership team (Les Ambassadeurs) is doing a toy drive at Normandale. This toy drive will be from Dec 1-15. We are so excited to be doing this for kids who would not be otherwise getting toys this holiday season. We will be giving all the toys that we receive to Toys for Tots. If you would like to donate, please send them with your child to bring to their homeroom teacher or drop at the main office. We can only accept new/unopened toy donations. Any donations that you can give are wanted and appreciated. Thank you!

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS - GET IN ON THE FUN!

Community Connections events are LIVE on our Membership Toolkit platform! There are many great events for parents and kids in all grades still open for participation. Get a jump start on your holiday shopping with these experiences. It's a win-win; we make gift-giving a snap and you get to support French Immersion in the Edina Public Schools and delight your family!

WINTER TEACHER/STAFF GIFTS

The Normandale PTO wants to provide a helping hand and facilitate the winter holiday gifts for Normandale teachers and staff. Participation is optional.

The PTO has created an online form that will allow families to make an electronic payment with a custom note to their chosen teachers/Normandale staff members.

The form is available within the Membership Toolkit platform. All gifts must be submitted by Friday, December 10.

In order to access the form, you must be logged in to Normandale's Membership Toolkit portal. If you have not confirmed your family's data this year, you will need to do that before the system will allow you to access the gift form. Once you are logged in, you can find Forms under the My Account menu.

The gift form is also available through the Membership Toolkit mobile app. You can find it in the top left menu under My Account > Forms. Normandale families already have an entry in the directory even if you have never logged in. If you are unsure what email address is associated with your Normandale Membership Toolkit account, or if you have any questions about the form, please email Sheri Rosen.

Once again, participation is completely optional.

COLD WEATHER CAR LINE REMINDERS

The weather outside has turned frightful and it's easy to run late with all of the cold weather gear we have to deal with now! Here are a few reminders as we transition in to winter.

  • Please remain in your vehicle. If you need to help kids enter/exit your car, please park in the lot.
  • NEW! The coned off area at the front of the line is reserved for kids club drop off until 8:25am
  • No parking in the signed Handicapped parking spaces unless you have qualifying tags
  • Once you enter the circle, please pull as far forward as you can before letting kids in or out of the car.

FROM THE MEDIA CENTER

Thank you to all who have ordered a subscription to L'école des loisirs. We received more subscriptions than we ever have which means quality French books at home for your students but also in the Media Center. Due to global shipping delays, we ask you to please be patient with the arrival of the books as they are shipped from France. We are working with our contact in Canada to make sure they get here as soon as possible.

Please contact the Media Center at 952-848-4120 should you have any questions. Again, thanks for your continued support of our school!

NOTES FROM THE INTERN COMMITTEE

Let's show our hard-working teachers and interns how much we appreciate them!

Once a month, we are asking volunteers to bring in something to brighten our teachers' and interns' day. This can be food, decorations, or anything else you think would show them the recognition they deserve. Please see the sign up sheet for more details and how to participate!

Fundraising Coupons Needed

We are looking for extra pizza fundraising coupons from various sport/fundraising efforts. We realize that these coupons often go unused. Our interns have several events throughout the year and these coupons could be put to good use!

Please note: we are not purchasing fundraising coupons. We are asking for donations of coupons that are not being used or set to expire soon. Please drop off pizza coupons before December 20.

Please feel free to drop them off at

Kelly Ingvaldson (intern committee member)

Edina, MN 55424

REMEMBER YOUR MASK EVERY DAY!

We have been passing out a significant number of replacement masks lately at school. Please make sure your child has a mask before you drop them at school (keep extras in the car) and also have extra masks in their backpacks and/or lockers. Disposable masks often break during the day, so please especially have extras if your child uses disposable masks.  Please note that we have a limited supply of emergency masks available.

LUNCHTIME VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We need volunteers EVERY DAY to supervise home lunch in the Normandale Auditorium. Please sign up HERE if you are able to help. Volunteers are what allows us to offer a separate space for home lunch students.

NOTES FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE

Edina Public Schools Vaccination Clinics were a success!

9+ immunization clinics

4000+ immunizations administered

100+ medical and nonmedical volunteers

Dedicated, caring, and empowering - it is truly remarkable the work and partnership that has and continues to go into keeping our students and schools healthy during this pandemic. From custodial staff and parents to volunteer medical professionals it was amazing to see a well-oiled machine administer 1,446 vaccinations last Thursday!

Thank you to all those who volunteered their time and efforts into making the vaccination clinic possible!

Early data shows that close to 80% of students throughout Edina will be fully vaccinated after their up and coming second dose and close to 70% of our elementary aged kids through the district will be vaccinated after their second dose- woo hoo!!!

Curious as to the details of how mRNA vaccines work? The guys at “stuff you should know” do an excellent job of explaining! I learned a lot and it was awesome. Click here to listen.

Curious on the benefits of getting vaccinated for you or your child?

  • Significantly decreases your or your loved ones chances of getting severely ill from COVID-19.
  • Offers greater protection to those around us who are too young for vaccination or are immunocompromised.
  • No quarantines if exposed to a COVID+ person (MDH Decision Tree)
