Giving Back To The Community
|
|
Every year Stephanie participates on the North Area Christmas Committee.
For the past two years, because of COVID-19, things have been celebrated differently. Despite these challenges Stephanie continues to spread cheer and kindness.
Each year, Stephanie collects donations for different agencies in need. She has continued this tradition despite not being able to celebrate in person. This year she is giving back to Street Help in Windsor.
Stephanie collected donations on December 2nd from the Belle River area. She did this all contactless and is thrilled to be helping again!

Snow Haulers - Volunteer Today!
|
|
The Hometown Proud Facebook group is helping the Town of Essex Community during the winter months by shoveling snow. The Hometown Proud Snow Haulers is 'neighbours helping neighbours' with their driveways and sidewalks. If you live in the town of Essex and need a Snow Hauler, please post in the Facebook group and someone that can help will reach out to you directly. The Snow Haulers was created by Ray Renaud, who is a member of New Day and receives supports from Community Living Essex County.
Snow Haulers is also looking for volunteers to help people in Essex shovel their walkways and driveways this winter. Please email Ray for more information or check out the Hometown Proud Facebook group.

Deanna applied to the Essex Region Conservation Authority to be an Enabling Accessibility Grant Youth Accessibility Leader. Deanna's project was to have garbage cans with lids along the Greenway trails, so that people with disabilities who may explore orally and don't understand the dangers of ingesting non-food items could enjoy the trails safely.
Deanna found out in September that her project was funded! Check out the above photo of the new garage cans that were installed along ERCA's Greenway trails!
Because Deanna advocated for change the Greenway trails are now safer and more inclusive!
Way to go Deanna!

Seek Happiness And Relaxation
Forget Perfection
|
|
Amidst the hustle and bustle of the holiday season - squeals of laughing children and loud, frustrated outbursts from overwhelmed adults, there must be a quiet corner we can escape to reflect on the joys of the season.
As you are surrounded by all that is December, take time for yourself. Unwind in a way that says, "I can do this. There are so many happy moments to remember. The new year promises to be filled with challenges I will meet and find creative solutions for."
Nothing past, present or in the future will ever be perfect. Life would be predictably boring if it was!
You have now given yourself a pep talk and you have your priorities.
Relax! Be happy! SMILE!
Happy Holiday Greetings!

Virtual Supports Spotlight: Lindsay
|
|
Lindsay has been a part of the Virtual Supports program since the beginning. Some of her favourite sessions include Around the World, Tenzi, Farkle, game shows, crafts and anything musical!
Recently, Lindsay and her family took advantage of the border opening to vacation in Georgia. She has been doing amazing things there, and one would think that she would take a vacation from all things Essex County.
Not so - Lindsay signed up for her full complement of sessions, and even though she couldn’t have her supplies delivered to her, she kept in touch so she was able to purchase the supplies she needed for certain sessions. Lindsay said she continued to register for sessions while on vacation because she wanted to keep seeing her friends and facilitators, to chat and laugh, and to talk about and show pictures of her vacation.
Virtual Supports have meant the world to both Lindsay her parents during this long pandemic. Lindsay has been able to keep busy and plan her days to stay connected with her peers. Lindsay likes to be able to stick to a routine, looking forward to sessions, preparing upcoming activities and loves receiving surprise packages every couple of weeks when she is home. Lindsay’s Virtual Support family has been a huge support to her when she lost her beloved dog, Deegan, while on vacation.
Lindsay prepared all her craft bags, supplies, iPad and stand, laptop, all chargers and even her printer so that she can have the visual printouts of her chosen sessions and needed supplies while on vacation!
Lindsay unanimously won “Kindest Participant” award in Virtual Supports. Lindsay always has a genuine smile on her face and Virtual Supports would not be the same without her!
