Highway 47 bypass at Martin Road opens Monday

Highway 47 bypass at Martin Road

We have installed a temporary bypass road along Highway 47 at Martin Road. The bypass includes vehicle lanes, a shared bike-and-pedestrian path and northbound bike lane.

The bypass allows us to build a roundabout at the intersection of Highway 47 and Martin Road without closing Highway 47.

This project includes replacing two culverts on Martin Road with a bridge. The bridge piles for the bridge are in place and the culverts are being removed. Martin and Porter roads will remain closed until the roundabout is complete, about Sept. 30.

Once the roundabout is open, we will remove the bypass. We will also widen the shoulders of Martin Road near Highway 47. A second closure of Martin Road is planned for spring 2024.

Open Houses

Visit the Pedestrian and Biking Improvement Projects Online Open House through Sunday to give feedback on six proposed sidewalk and pedestrian crossing projects.

Washington County’s Urban Road Maintenance District (URMD) has $1 million available for construction of sidewalks, pedestrian crossings or bicycle facilities. Comments from the online open house will help the committee decide how to trim the project list.

Comment on Metro's 2023 Regional Transportation Plan and High Capacity Transit Strategy through Aug. 25.

The Regional Transportation Plan is the region's vision how people and businesses move around now and for the next 25 years— by motor vehicle, bus and rail, biking, walking and more. Metro updates the Plan every five years to address transportation needs.
