The OCMS E-Newsletter is a quarterly publication highlighting major medical, public health, and community issues affecting physician and medical student leaders in Oakland County. Distribution is a unique benefit of membership.

HOUSE OF DELEGATES


House of Delegates (HOD); a means to advocate for physicians and patients to improve the health of the public and the health care system. 


The Delegation Committee comprised of county physician members serve as representatives to the Michigan State Medical Society’s (MSMS) physician governing body. This governing body of physicians meets annually to determine the policies, financial priorities, and positions of the state medical society. The OCMS’ Delegation meets in the months of January and February to determine which policies and priorities it believes MSMS should pursue in the coming year. The delegation then lobbies its positions at the annual statewide meeting. OCMS House of Delegates (HOD) is comprised of 24 voting delegates, all of whom are members of OCMS. This year, the state HOD is April

22 – 23 in Dearborn at The Henry. OCMS will host its initial meeting, chaired by Sherwin Imlay, MD on February 8 at 6 pm in the Bingham Center Conference Room, 30800 Telegraph Rd, Bingham Farms, to discuss any resolutions our delegates may propose. Future events we are working on for 2023 include: Winter - Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, Spring - Craft Beer Event, Summer - Detroit Tigers Game, and Fall - Cider Mill with Hayrides; more details to follow.

Implicit Bias Training


The MSMS Foundation worked with state-wide experts in diversity and equity on a brand-new two-part monthly series, titled, “Reducing Unconscious Bias - an Imperative (RUBI): Foundation and Impacts on Patient Care."  To meet the implicit bias requirement, physicians will need to complete Part 1 and Part 2 to receive 1.5 AMA PRA Category Credit(s)™. The next scheduled session is March 15 at 12 pm.

Participation in a committee is a great way to meet your peers and to show your support and interest in your area of practice. Listed are a few committees that have open positions.


Medical/Legal Committee

The Medical/Legal Committee is composed of both physicians and attorneys who deal with inter-professional relationships and matters of concern to both professional groups. The mission of the committee is to foster and advance the relationship between the legal and medical professions in Oakland County, to improve the public's and courts’ understanding of the laws that affect the practice of medicine, and to foster awareness of relevant news and legislation through open discussion and the presentment of speakers. Health Equity Committee

The Health Equity Commitee addresses health equity in Oakland County. The goal of the committee is to understand and address the barriers to health equity. For more information contact Romy Shubitowski at rshubitowski@ocms-mi.org.
