Join us at 11:30 (or immediately following the service) for an in-person fellowship with coffee, beverages, treats, and good conversation on UUCUC's South Lawn.
As of Thursday, September 8, 2022, the COVID-19 transmission level in Champaign County is HIGH. That means masks will be required in UUCUC's building for all activities until the transmission level drops to Medium or Low. When In-Person Fellowship Hour is scheduled, it will also be moved outside as the weather permits. Disposable masks for children and adults are available at UUCUC, but we encourage you to bring your own masks to wear. Please visit this link for UUCUC's current COVID Safety Guidelines.

OUR CARING CONGREGATION
Please consider donating to the Little Free Pantries run by Julie Laut (Urbana) and AJ Herzog (Champaign), which they have maintained year-round since March 2020. Their Amazon wish list has been updated to include unique summer items. The wishlist can be sorted to identify high priority items. All orders sent through Amazon are delivered to Julie's house and split between the two pantries. You are also welcome to drop off items in person at both locations. Questions? Contact Julie (jlaut@hushmail.com) or AJ (zogs92@gmail.com).
JOYS AND SORROWS sent to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org for last Sunday, September 4, 2022.

From Natalie Danner: To begin REE with children, youth, and our REE volunteers next Sunday.

From Pat Feely: Joy - Wendy Graves is a church member with an amazing generous spirit. I could cry with her and laugh with her. I'm grateful and blessed to call her a friend.

From Pat McClard: Sorrow for my trans son who endured bullying in the first week of school.

From Gensis Synek: Lately I have been feeling like everyone around me is just straight up annoyed with me.

From Catherine Ritchie: In the middle of last Sunday's online service, I learned that results from a heart test I took a few days before were in, and on a weekend, no less. My doctor had heard something possibly awry in my heartbeat the week before and wanted me checked. Fortunately, my condition is totally benign, and needs no treatment. And thanks to YouTube, I watched the interrupted service an hour later. Unitarian spirits were literally in the room with me that morning!
Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org any time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service. They will be read aloud.
GIVING AND GRATITUDE
UUCUC Social Action Offering. Each month a selected organization is chosen to receive offerings from our congregation. You may donate to the social action offering for the month in one of the following ways:

SOCIAL ACTION OFFERING FOR SEPTEMBER 2022
Uniting Pride was founded in 2009 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization to advocate for the equality, wellness, and visibility of the LGBTQ+ community in Champaign County. UP exists to create a community where all who identify as sexual and/or gender minorities can live full, healthy, and vibrant lives.

We have a few main areas of year-round work:
  • Support and Social Groups
  • Our support and social groups that serve everyone from our littlest littles up through our elders.
  • Training and Education
  • We offer free LGBTQ+ Cultural Competency training for anyone willing to have us. From schools to healthcare to private businesses to faith groups to community groups and more.
  • Advocacy
  • An area of growth for us is around Advocacy. Any organization like ours always works to put ourselves out of business. Our goal is that someday there’s no more need because the world is affirming and safe for everyone. Sadly, things are going the opposite direction. 2021 was the worst year in US history with the most anti-LGBTQ+ legislation ever passed and 2022 is on track to shatter that record. So we have formed an Advocacy committee to address this growing need.
  • Programming
  • And lastly, what we’re known best for: our events and programs. We produce the annual Pride Fest in the fall with our signature parade and fair and lots of other community programming. But we’ve also added a lot more this past year, from social to educational to adult to youth & family. We’re striving to create more safe and affirming socialization and community.

We need your help!

Of course, all of this takes resources to do. Uniting Pride is on an aggressive growth plan, again sadly, due to increased need. We’ve reached our max capacity based on the staff, funding, and resources we currently have, and yet there is so much more we could do if we had what we needed to do it. So if you’re lucky enough to be in a position to give, we thank you for helping us.

And we hope to see you at this year’s Pride Fest Sept 24th to Oct 2nd. Check out our website for information on the incredible week of programming we’re offering this year: unitingpride.org.
During the month of July, our shared offering was able to raise $1,755.38 that was donated to The Brennan Center for Justice.

The Brennan Center for Justice is working to create a USA that is democratic, just, and free. Today we are in a great fight for the future of democracy in our country.
