Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
James 4:8
After a brief month’s break, The Daily Moment with God has returned just in time for Fall. This brings me joy!
And as we begin a new season – for schools, the calendar, jobs, and church – let’s remember how great and wonderful our God is. There really is nothing and no one who compares to Him!
Today’s Evening Prayer reading gives us the beautiful verse above. God wants to be close to us and wants us to be close to Him. How marvelous!
Unlike the popular kids at school... or the crush who didn’t share our feelings... who push us away, God embraces, welcomes, and calls us to come to Him. He wants us to know who He is, what He’s done, and how deeply He loves us.
Indeed, God's love for us was so great that He sent His one and only Son to take on human flesh and become like us every way, except He never sinned. In the Incarnation, God Himself drew near to us so that we might know Him more intimately than even Abraham, Moses, Hannah, Ruth, David, or Isaiah. And now He wants us to draw even closer to Him,
As we begin a new season, let’s begin or renew a commitment to draw near to our loving God every day.
We can do this privately by reflecting on and applying Scripture; by bringing our needs, concerns, and worries to God through prayer; by turning away from sinful thoughts, words, and actions and turning toward holiness, love, and goodness; or by singing praise and thanksgiving to God for who He is and what He has done.
We can also do this together through worship and celebration of the Eucharist on Sundays; through our Prayer Meetings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; through Bible Studies, Small Groups, and formation classes; and by serving side-by-side in ministries like choir, altar guild, mission and outreach, or youth and children's ministries.
The Almighty, All-Knowing, All-Powerful, Creator and Sustainer of the universe wants to be close to us. A glorious and uplifting thought. May the Spirit lead us to come to Him and walk with Him day-by-day.
God bless you!
