Our Vision:

Our Mission:
We seek to foster spiritual growth & renewal while spreading God's message of love, healing and peace.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It recently occurred to me that we are approximately 2/3 months of our way through the sabbatical time! More precisely, I think we are closer to 11/15 weeks! I continue to pray that God will grant each of us and all of us an enriching period of “refreshment, rest, and refocus” during these summer months.

One of the most famous lines of St. Augustine (354-430) is “You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless, until they find rest in you.” That phrase can be found in his autobiography, The Confessions, which took him about five years to write, and was started ten years after his conversion and baptism as a young adult. His autobiography begins: “Great are you, O Lord, and greatly to be praised; great is your power, and your wisdom is infinite.” What a wonderful phrase of worship! By the way, we will celebrate the feast day of St. Augustine on August 28.

A few weeks ago, we heard once again what has been called “The Great Invitation” from Jesus to His followers then and now: “Come unto me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28). Those words have been used in many musical settings throughout church history and here is one example. The text has been matched with at least three different tunes by famous English composers (note the time difference of when they lived). You might enjoy listening to each of the musical settings as you meditate on these wonderful words!

Hymn #692: I HEARD THE VOICE OF JESUS SAY.  Text: Horatio Bonar (1808-1889) in 1846.
Tune: John Dykes (1823-1876); Ralph V. Williams (1872-1958); Thomas Tallis (1505-1585)

I heard the voice of Jesus say, “Come unto me and rest;
And in your weariness lay down your head upon my breast.”
I came to Jesus as I was, so weary, worn, and sad;
I found in him a resting place, and he has made me glad.

I heard the voice of Jesus say, “Behold I freely give
The living water; thirsty one, stoop down and drink, and live.”
I came to Jesus, and I drank of that life-giving stream;
My thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in him.

I heard the voice of Jesus say, “I am this dark world’s light
Look unto me, your morn shall rise, and all your day be bright.”
I looked to Jesus, and I found in him, my Star, my Sun,
And in that light of life I’ll walk till pilgrim days are done.

Nina and I are looking forward very much to “the mini-retreat” on Saturday, Aug. 26 (9-noon). We hope many of you can join us in this time of rest and refreshment.

Grace and Peace,
Fr. John

PS Please remember to pray for the Vacation Bible School August 14-17, and spread the word!

August 5: Men’s Breakfast Fellowship

All men of St. Francis are welcome to attend.
Meet in a Meadow - Please join us
Sunday, August 6 at 11:30 am

You are invited to learn more about meadows! Why? St. Francis may be converting part of our property from lawn to meadow. Willistown Conservation Trust has just received a grant to help landowners establish meadows and we may want to take advantage of this opportunity.

First, we need the parish to know about the benefits of meadows and the timeline for such a project. Luckily, Tony and Sharon Fernandes are inviting us to stop by their home on 741 Monument Road, Malvern to see their meadow and to answer questions from their personal experience on Sunday, August 6 @ 11:30.

Sign ups will be available in the Narthex but are not required.

We are excited to announce that St. Francis is offering Vacation Bible School this summer! It will be held Monday, August 14th thru Thursday, August 17th from 9:00 am to 11:30am. Our curriculum is from Grow Kids and the theme is On the Case. The children will act as detectives to solve the mystery of how to grow with God through some of Jesus' Parables.

Vacation Bible School is open to ages 4 & 5 and grades K thru 5. Registration opens Monday, June 12th and forms will be available on our website and at church.

If you have grandchildren, neighbors, friends or family who may be interested, please spread the word!

Vacation Bible School is the first step in our strategy to rebuild our Church School program, which we plan to relaunch in September (start date to be announced later this summer.)

Church School will be held once a month initially, as we build the program and assess interest and attendance.

PARISH RENEWAL AUGUST 26

SATURDAY MORNING: 9AM-NOON
Fr. John and Nina will lead a "mini" retreat designed to help us respond to the wonderful invitations by Jesus to rest in Him.

Here are two examples of invitations He issued. "Come away with me for a while to a quiet place and get some rest." (Mark 6:31). "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”. (Matthew 11:28).

The plan is to have a combination of Scripture readings, prayer, meditation, singing some songs, and reading poetry. As someone wisely stated, "We need to slow down to catch up with God”.

This "mini" retreat will be a time to do just that, and come away refreshed, revived, and renewed

Sign-up sheet in Narthex.
Summer Fellowship
