PASH Newsletter
September 2021
President's Message
Welcome back for the 2021-2022 PASH year!

I’m honored to have been selected as PASH President for one more year and am looking forward to what this year has in store for us. I would like to extend a huge thank you to the Board Members, Committee Chairs and all of the individuals that volunteer their time to PASH. Without the dedication and support of volunteers, we couldn’t exist.

Are you new to the group or interested in being more involved? I encourage you to reach out to me or one of the other PASH leaders to find out how you can participate.

There is a lot to look forward to this year. We will be kicking off the PASH year in September at the Whitehall Houston while abiding by the latest CDC guidance. Each of the committees will be coordinating engaging speakers and lively discussion topics to keep us up to date on the latest developments in the industry. One of the momentous events this year will be the 60th (plus 1) Anniversary COPAS meeting. PASH will be hosting the Spring 2022 COPAS meeting at the San Luis Resort in Galveston and it is going to be a great week. Education Day will be held in May featuring a full day of topics from expert presenters.

Knowledge sharing and building lasting relationships are two things that help us grow as individuals and also two of the greatest benefits of being a PASH member. Let’s continue to cultivate our relationships and share our experiences with others. Invite your colleagues to join you for a meeting to share what our society has to offer and encourage them to become a member. Everyone has something great to contribute.

As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to me or any of your fellow PASH members. We’re here to work together towards success!

Wishing you the best,

Karla Zawodny
2021-2022 PASH President

Financial Reporting & Tax Committee
Hi all, welcome back to another PASH season!

This past year we were all dealt with unprecedented challenges and the seemingly ever-changing COVID variant, not to mention the shift in energy investment strategy. As we shift from a fully remote to hybrid of virtual and in-person environment, we continue to monitor the latest health regulations, but in any case some factors still lingering. At the same time, financial resilience is one of the top lessons learned from last year, and that we could continue to be productive in a remote environment and collaborate with others.

That being said, there have been few developments in the financial reporting as well as the tax worlds; a few topics that comes to mind are:

·     Energy transition and ESG reporting considerations
·     Accounting for government assistance programs
·     Lease modifications and impairments (primarily for those adopted ASC 842)
·     Rise of SPAC

If you are interested in participating in financial reporting & tax committee meetings, please reach out to the committee chairs, Pablo Lutenberg (PabloLutenberg@gmail.com) and Roger Shao (Roger.Shao@mossadams.com) and indicate topic(s) of interest; certainly not limited to the topics above. This will help us target speakers for topics that are most relevant for our committee members. Also, please feel free to let us know if you're aware of any speakers who have recently presented on subjects that may be of interest to our members that we can coordinate with.

Meanwhile, please stay safe and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Thank you to our committee members for your continued support of PASH and our industry!
Joint Interest Committee
The Joint Interest Committee will be meeting at 3:00 PM on September 16th at the Whitehall.

Your JI Committee Chairs, Terry Davis and Paula Britton, are both excited about the new year and the opportunity to work together. One of the goals is to encourage active members to “bring a buddy”. With this plan, we hope to generate interest, train new accountants, and increase attendance. This may be easier to do while “zooming in” which we hope will spill over into the “in-person” when they become the norm. We also want to find out from attendee’s “What’s on your mind?”. With this goal, we are hoping to motive and encourage ones to join in the conversations
Membership Committee
We hope you are enjoying PASH! We are kicking off the year with in-person meetings! Have you considered sharing the experience with a coworker or friend?

Do you:
  • Know someone new to the industry?
  • Have an Oil and Gas accountant that could benefit from training and collaboration?
  • Like to network?

Are you:
  • Stumped on a specific Oil and Gas Accounting issue?
  • Looking for Oil and Gas accounting updates and trending issue discussions?

Having a familiar face and a little guidance can make a huge impact to someone new to PASH. Feel free to encourage your coworkers or oil and gas accounting friends to join PASH. It is a great place to network and get to know a great group of people. The Membership Application and instructions can be found on our website pashcopas.org under the Membership Tab, then Membership Application. Please reach out to us at pashmembership@yahoo.com if you have any questions or concerns about membership or PASH in general.

Know someone who is interested in joining? Encourage them to apply today. Our year is just beginning!

Revenue Committee
The Revenue Committee is looking forward to welcoming everyone back in person for the September meeting - 3:00 PM, September 16th at the Whitehall.

We will have an advanced Excel skills presentation from Lawrence Hackney. A portion of the meeting will be utilized to brainstorm ideas for speaking topics and what the committee hopes to see in this new year. This is an opportunity for members to have their voices heard – so come one, come all! Can’t wait to see you September 16th at Whitehall.

If you have any questions, please email Lawrence Hackney at lfh@lfhcpa.com or Fay Lascelle at fay.lascelle@sbcglobal.com.
