A Message from our VP

This semester is moving right along and I am in my spring routines. February will be filled with more activities and opportunities. This past week, I attended the Georgia NASPA Drive-In conference with Emily Tanner, Kasie Thompson, Zwisel Gandia, and Maria Burton. We attended sessions and had fun learning more about one another.

I am proud of our Jed Campus team led by Dr. Jodi Caldwell; this cross functional team is working on a variety of strategies to elevate our environment in ways to enhance students’ health and well being. A group representing GS will head to Athens this month to attend the USG Mental Health Summit and the USG Suicide Prevention Conference. I am especially grateful for the leadership of Dr. Jodi Caldwell and Dr. Gemma Skuraton on the planning committee of the SPC. The True Blue campaign kicks off this month where staff are asked to give back to GS in ways that support our programs and student success. All our DSA departments have opportunities to give; Visit GeorgiaSouthern.edu/FTLOB for more information. What funds speak to your passion? I will personally give a shout out to Eagles LEAD, GS4505, the fund to support scholarships for student organization leaders. Show your true blue spirit during the campaign this month!

This month, I begin my journey as a participant in the Student Success Institute sponsored by the American Association of Public Colleges and Universities. I can’t wait to share with you what I learn and look forward to hearing your feedback to use our Eagle Engage data to enhance our GS student success goals!

I have amazing news to share about several NASPA recognitions GS will be receiving due to the outstanding work led by individuals in the Division of Student Affairs. I love to brag about our wonderful team in DSA but it sure is nice to see that hard work recognized at the national level! While I cannot share the specifics of these forthcoming announcements right now, I know that significant honors are on their way. Our team continues to GATA when it comes to engaging and supporting our students! Stay tuned for more details to be released this month!

Thank you for your leadership and commitment to our community. I appreciate all you do to enhance student engagement!

True Blue Campaign

This once-a-year campaign is tailored specifically for employee giving, making it easy to pledge a one-time charitable gift or multiple payroll gift deductions to one of the causes you care about. The employee support during For the Love of Blue makes a lasting impact on our students and our future!

Visit GeorgiaSouthern.edu/FTLOB for more information.

Office of Student Conduct

The conversation about alcohol and other drugs is an important one. However, this conversation can be problematic if it’s only talked about in a punitive way.

The purpose of this panel is to engage actively in an open, multifaceted dialogue about substances compassionately, taking into account risks, benefits, challenges, prevention, and recovery to self and community. There is no right or wrong way to talk about it. So let’s just talk about it.

Counseling Center

The Counseling Center has a handful of QPR Gatekeeper training opportunities this spring. Please click HERE to find additional information about QPR training and to sign up.

All students welcome. Covers topics regarding mental health, coping skills, communication skills, dealing with pressure, and cultural issues. Collaboration with Office of Multicultural Affairs and Hispanic Outreach and Leadership Achievement.

Office of Leadership & Community Engagement

Staff and Graduate Assistants - Did you know that you have the opportunity to take part in an Alternative Spring Break experience?

Alternative Spring Breaks are unique volunteer experiences in which a group of students and one professional (Resident Scholar) travel to another community and volunteer with a non-profit organization over spring break. Serving as a Resident Scholar is an incredible professional development opportunity and provides an unparalleled way to connect with students outside of the office or classroom. Another bonus, Resident Scholars get to go for free!

For Spring Break, we are in need of two Resident Scholars to attend our breaks so that we can send our student groups out to volunteer. One group will work with a non-profit that will be doing natural disaster clean-up and the other will be working with a non-profit focusing on children’s health and family care! If you are interested, please apply through this link! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Alternative Breaks Coordinator (kasiethompson@georgiasouthern.edu or 912-478-0010) with any questions or for more information!
