WHERE CHILDREN LEARN TO SHINE

 CENTER SPOTLIGHTS & HAPPENINGS

Bright Ideas Auburn

(Alabama)

This past month, our social focus at Auburn was on being a good sport and team player. Summer has been a blast full of fun summer camp activities, water play, and learning, with our 3-4 year old's learning to recognize and write the letter "M".

July was all about America, baseball, and space! We celebrated the fourth of July and had plenty of fun water play days! We can't wait for our themes of Olympics, sports, camping, and food this month. During art this past month, Ms. Journey's class was making flowers. The kids were practicing their fine motor skills with the q-tips and naming colors while they painted. Our summer campers are headed back to school this month, and while we will miss them and all the fun adventures we had this summer, we wish them luck this coming school year!

Our teacher spotlight this month is Ms. Patrea! Ms. Patrea is a very caring teacher. She goes above and beyond to show her students that they are loved and cared for. When you walk into her classroom, she not only makes the children feel welcome, but the parents do as well. We are lucky to have her! ~Director at Bright Ideas Bryant

While our summer camp students have been enjoying all the fun activities we've had planned this summer, it's time for them to head back to school for another year of learning! We will miss them as they go back to school but we can't wait to see some of them every day in our after school program! This past month, Room 10 has been focusing on learning and recognizing their colors as well as using their fine motor skills to complete color puzzles. Our toddlers have been using their fine motor skills to learn how to hold a paintbrush and paint, and they've been enjoying nature adventures! We're also very proud of our three year old's who have been working on their early writing skills by using magnetic tiles to "write" their numbers!

It's back to school time! We've had so much fun this summer with our summer camp students, but we can't wait to hear about how their school year is going in our after-school program! The summer was filled with laughter, water play days, adventures, field trips, and lots of memories made! We wish our school age students the best of luck for this school year - we know each of you will have a successful year!

Summer is slowly coming to an end but we are still learning and having fun. We really enjoyed all the themes and activities we had during our summer break. In July, we learned about water safety during Underwater Week. We had a company come out and teach the children the importance of learning to swim, wearing a life vest, and having proper supervision. The children really enjoyed the presentation and afterwards they got to have Ocean floats.

Our Preschool 4 class really had fun learning math skills by playing the M&M game. We had the children pair up and count/sort their M&Ms. This fun game illustrates color recognition, counting, and helps with fine motor skills. We ended our activity with eating our M&Ms.

We had an entertaining science activity in which the children looked for faux bugs throughout the school. We had placed them strategically in order for the students to look carefully for them. We also had fun facts to accompany our insects. We really enjoy sharing our scientific knowledge with the children such as spiders are not bugs.

Bright Ideas Memphis

(Tennessee)

Bright Ideas Memphis has had a wonderful July and we're looking forward to an even better August! Our Young Toddlers had a Flag Parade as Ms. Connie taught them about Independence Day. The toddlers also practiced both fine and gross motor skills painting with tennis balls. This is also a great introduction to color mixing and concepts such as size and sequencing. We are so proud but sad our school age children are going back to school. We hope everyone has a fantastic school year and shows off everything they have learned over the summer with us!

At Midlothian this July, our two year old's practiced using their fine motor skills to glue "tube feet" (cheerios) onto their starfish! They learned about texture, that starfish live in the sea, and that they have 5 arms. While our two's were using their fine motor skills, our toddlers used their gross motor skills to climb, crawl, and play in their ball pit!

This past week we had a wildly successful open house. A huge thank you to all who came out and participated! A huge thank you to our amazing staff as well for helping make our open house such a success, and for being available to answer new parent questions about our program. We couldn't have done it without you all!

Grumpy Monkey Says No!

By Suzanne Lang

ο»Ώ

Does Jim Panzee want to go for a walk? No! How about having a play date? No! Not even to eat a banana? No! Grumpy Monkey just wants to say "no." Sometimes it seems like the only word toddlers know is "no," and Jim is no exception.

A simple text and humorous artwork offer parents the perfect funny book to help when their toddlers say "no" to absolutely everything.
