Dear Church,

I am writing with a heavy heart to let you know that Bob Campbell passed away last Saturday night. Bob and his wife Penny, who died in December 2023, retired to Middlebury and Vero Beach in 2001 and were active members of our congregation for many years. Last June, Bob moved from East View to a health care facility in Tennessee to be near his family.

When I remember Bob, I can only smile. I so enjoyed my visits with Penny and him. Bob’s wit and charm were always in good supply, and his North Carolina accent lent a lilting music to his well-spun stories. Among other things, he did not tire of his affection for his alma mater, Davidson College, and was delighted to hear about our daughter Ella’s experience there. Most of all, when I think of Bob, I picture him beaming in Penny’s direction or gushing about their four daughters and their families. His family was his heart’s home. He will be remembered well and sorely missed.

There will be a service of celebration for Bob’s life at our church at 1:00 p.m. on April 12. There will be a reception to follow. Until then, let’s offer prayers of thanks for Bob’s life and prayers of consolation for his family.
