2023 has started out strong! The Frederick County Office of Economic Development kicked off the year by releasing our latest Top 50 publication in partnership with Frederick Magazine. We are excited to share the Top 50 Most Innovative Businesses in Frederick County along with companies and partners that foster innovation. Check out the profiles of some of our Top Innovators: Astra Zeneca, Galaxy Control Systems, Alirtify, District Farms and @VR Virtual Reality.
We have been really busy working with businesses who are looking to start, locate and expand. Kite Pharma announced an exciting 70,000sf expansion at their biomanufacturing facility in Urbana, while China-based company Forecyte Bio Limited recently held their ribbon-cutting celebration for their new 17,000sf facility. Our life science industry continues to grow and prosper! A newly-announced program from BioHub is offering opportunities to veterans by training them with the skills needed for the life sciences industry.
Partnerships and collaboration are key elements of economic development. Thanks to a partnership with M&T Bank, FCOED is excited to launch the EmPOWER Business Accelerator Program. This 10-week virtual business accelerator program is designed to help underrepresented businesses grow their business, offering a pitch competition at the end. Bio Boot Camp, a partnership with the Frederick County Workforces Services, the City of Frederick Department of Economic Development and Frederick Community College kicked-off this month.
As we continue building momentum, we are passionate and committed to supporting our business community throughout the year. Stayed tuned for more announcements throughout the year.
