What's New @ Your Chandler Public Library
July 2021
Good news! In-person programming returns in August!
Take a look at what we have scheduled and mark your calendars.
Storytime is back!
We are excited for in-person storytime to resume in August. For everyone's safety and comfort, programs for children ages 0-5 will have limited seating and require a ticket for entry. Tickets will be available 15 minutes before the program starts and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Everyone in your party (each child and adult) must be present to receive a ticket.

Visit our calendar and start making plans for your family to enjoy books, songs, fingerplays, puppets, and more!
Get Over The Summer Reading Slump
We’re in the second half of the Summer Reading Challenge! How’s your reading going? The average Chandler Public Library participant has already logged 696 minutes. Not quite there? We have some great tips to keep you motivated and reading to earn your points. Remember to log your reading minutes to earn your points.

Haven’t started the Summer Reading Challenge yet? There’s still time to join! Visit our website to learn more. Hurry, the Summer Reading Challenge ends August 1.
Kindergarten Here We Come!
Is your little one off to Kindergarten this year? It can be a little scary but also exciting as your child begins this new adventure. Perhaps they’re nervous to be away from their parents or not quite sure what to expect in a classroom setting.

Help them prepare for this transition with our "Kindergarten, Here I Come!" booklist. Reading picture books together is a great way for your child to learn that it's normal to feel what they feel (and it's normal for you, too). Place holds with your library card today and help your child get to the head of the class.
Library Reads
LibraryReads is the monthly nationwide library staff picks list for adult fiction and non-fiction. Rather than picking “the best” of anything, LibraryReads represents collective favorites–the books library staff loved reading and cannot wait to share.

The July list of librarian favorites includes thrillers and suspense, historical fiction, speculative tales, and new entries from bestselling authors. Are there any that you’re anxiously awaiting? Maybe you want to try something new. Check out the list and place your holds!
Extreme Weather Preparedness in Maricopa County

Summer is here, and so are the high heat temperatures, potential flash flooding, dangerous winds, dust storms, and more. Delve into the kinds of extreme weather events you may encounter in Maricopa County, and how best to protect yourself and loved ones. This recorded program is presented by climatologist Dr. Erinanne Saffell, from Arizona State University. Running time 52:42.
July Book Discussion Groups

Have you been wanting to join a book discussion group but not sure where to start? We have quite a few to choose from. Our groups meet at various times throughout the day and month, and discuss different genres as well. Find a group that suits you!

Please note, some groups require registration prior to meeting online. Check the individual listing on the calendar.
Friends of the Chandler Public Library:
Chandler Public Library is thrilled to announce the Friends of the Library has generously donated over $67,000 to the Library.

“The remarkable and generous support of the Friends of the Library demonstrates the community’s love of learning, personal connection, and service to others,” said Rachelle Kuzyk, Library Manager.

Throughout the year, the Friends hold monthly book and media sales, sell CPL State 48 Shirts and participate in national fundraising programs. All the funds gathered from these efforts will support CPL’s early literacy programs, fully fund online resources like PressReader, which provides access to over 6000 electronic newspapers and magazines from over 100 countries in 60+ languages, and sponsor at-home learning kits for children and adults this upcoming fiscal year.

The Friends of the Library take pride in helping to maintain the excellence of the Chandler Public Library. Learn how you can support the Friends.
