November 7-11th, 2022
The tone of this week’s texts is ominous. But do not become anxious. Because of our baptism into Christ, we know how to live in the meantime. We are strengthened for the living of these days in word and sacrament. We rally around the invitation of the apostle: “Do not be weary in doing what is right,” and Jesus’ words, “By your endurance you will gain your souls.”
Monday, November 7
Malachi 4:1-2a
Our first reading warns us that the day is coming when evil will be destroyed and that the righteous will rise and be healed.

.Tuesday, November 8
Psalm 98
The judgment of God will come, but we are encouraged to remember to sing God’s praise, to remember the faithfulness of God towards us, and to remember that God always deals with us with righteousness.

 Wednesday, November 9
2 Thessalonians 3:6-13
While we cannot earn salvation through our works, it does not mean that we shouldn’t work. Some of the Thessalonian church community believed that Christ’s return was imminent, so they stopped working, living off the generosity of others in their community. The author of this letter tells them, and us, that we should do our part so that we are not a burden to anyone.

 Thursday, November 10
Luke 21:5-19
Not exactly the job you would want to apply for when you hear what your future will be…However, Jesus’ promise that we will “gain our souls” helps us to endure without fear.

Friday, November 11
Prayer for the Week

O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without you nothing is strong, nothing is holy. Embrace us with your mercy, that with you as our ruler and guide, we may live through what is temporary without losing what is eternal, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
