Dear Residents -

On Tuesday night at the Police Commission Meeting, Chief Butterworth presented awards to our police officers who went above and beyond in their call of duty. Many of us, myself included, often forget about the everyday dangers our officers face. As these meetings are not broadcast, I share with you HERE a list of the officers who received awards.

There are still a few holiday events to enjoy. Tomorrow is the Blauvelt Ladies Auxiliary’s Community Holiday Party and the Tappan Fire Department’s Drive-Thru Holiday Experience. On Sunday, it is the last day to visit the open house at the Historic Salyer House from 1 pm to 4 pm. Next week, there are several Chanukah menorah lighting ceremonies taking place across Orangetown. For details on all these events, please see the flyer below.

I want to thank Mayor Joe Rand for inviting me to be an “official” judge in the Village of Nyack’s Holiday Home Decorating Contest. For a map of the homes we viewed (click here), and to vote for your favorite click here. I had quite an experience driving around in the Mayor’s vintage minivan, with County Legislator Beth Davidson, Pastor Everett Preach Newton, Gary Cirlin (a former competitor on ABC’s “Great Christmas Light Fight”), and Nyack resident Kris Burns. We visited homes across Upper Nyack, Nyack and South Nyack, evaluating each of them for brightness/color, use of space and creativity. All of the homes were uniquely wonderful, making our job very difficult. As the winner will be announced on December 23rd – it’s not too late to get your vote in.

For parents needing a few hours to themselves, the Village of Nyack is offering winter wonderland workshops at the Nyack Center. For $10 a child, the Nyack Center will watch your child for up to 4 hours while you dine or shop your way through Downtown Nyack. For other Nyack happenings, check out their Facebook page.

Whatever you decide to do this weekend, I hope it puts you in the holiday spirit!

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny
