Daffy Ducks

March 7 – April 11

You won't want to miss our daffodils now blooming on the Bridge. We have many varieties and over 5,000 of these popular spring flowers. While many bloomed a little early this year, there are still plenty of these flowers to see.

Help us welcome the coming of spring by looking for our Daffy Ducks hidden throughout the gardens. Play our Find the Duck Game and when you find this special duck, take a picture and post it on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

Celebrate With Us

The Bridge is 10 years old this year, and we're getting ready to celebrate in a big way! Here's the scoop on what we have planned so far:

  • Look for our new 10th Anniversary banners around town and in the gardens.
  • We are having such fun planning the new Education Center and hope to break ground this year. A year in the planning, we are excited for the progress we've made and look forward to having our new building completed. (See related article below.)
  • An upcoming exhibit at the Lake Lure Welcome Center will detail the Bridge's transformation from a dilapidated structure into the beautiful gardens we have today.
  • A unique symbol will be offered for our annual brick promotion to mark our 10th Anniversary.
  • We'll have lots of commemorative merchandise available for purchase throughout the year.

Make plans now to join us for a 10th Anniversary Celebration on Friday, June 2, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. This event will be held at the Riverside Event Center in Lake Lure. We'll have food, beverages, music, and much more fun that you won't want to miss! All proceeds from this FUNDraising and FUNraising event will go toward our Education Center.

The LLFB Education Center

A New Beginning

Education has always been an integral part of what we do at the LLFB. This year we are making changes to our education program, and we want you to know what we're planning.

Soon we will begin constructing our new Education Center. It will allow us to conduct classes year round inside a climate-controlled building, making for a more comfortable learning experience. It will also prevent us from having to cancel a class at the last minute due to inclement weather.

The Center will have an ADA-compliant restroom, small kitchen area, office, large classroom space, and gift shop. Inside you will find horticultural displays, plants, and a small library. Everyone will enjoy watching a short video on the history of the Bridge.

There will be a courtyard in front with ample seating, tables, shade sails and planted beds.

Our class offerings are also changing this year. We are planning more classes, hosting guest speakers, providing art and horticultural classes for all ages, and using puppetry to help deliver some of our programs.

If you would like to donate to help us build our new Education Center, please visit our website. No donation is too small, and donations are tax deductible. We appreciate any gift that is entrusted to us.

Seed Starting and Propagating Plants

March 28

10 am

Join Master Gardeners Charlotte Gardner and Debbie Clark for this class on how to start flower and vegetable seeds for your garden. In this class you will learn how to propagate new plants by cuttings and layering, increasing your ability to grow more plants in your garden.

This class is open to the public and is free. It will be held at the Welcome Terrace and last about an hour with plenty of time for Q&A. We will have plants and seeds available for sale at the class.

In the event of inclement weather, this class will be held at the Lake Lure Town Hall. Watch our Facebook page for any last-minute updates about this class.

See our full class schedule on our website.

Mr. McGregor Says...

Hey kids, spring is just around the corner and I'm about to start planting my spring garden with lettuces, carrots, radishes, beans and spinach. When you visit my garden, please help me watch for Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail, those pesky triplet sisters who like to raid these vegetables!

Friends of the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge is a volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations to help preserve and maintain the Bridge gardens and to support our new Education Center are always appreciated – and tax-deductible.
