The COVID pandemic has caused hardships on many businesses across the HEB area, our country and the world. It is very encouraging to see the number of new cases lessening each month and a return to near normalcy amongst our business community. Many might not have been here to experience this revival if they had not received much needed funding from the various Federal Government Cares Act funds.
Hurst was fortunate to lose very few businesses over the past 19 months and much of the credit should be given to the hard working business owners, managers, employees and the grants/loans they received. 627 Hurst businesses received PPP funding in round one (2020) and 557 Hurst businesses received monies in the second round of funding (2021). Tarrant County also offered grants for qualified businesses and 106 Hurst businesses were recipients of those.
For those few businesses that were lost, replacements are being found. Rally House and Nothing Bundt Cakes are two great examples. Rally House features officially licensed college and professional sports apparel, gifts and sports memorabilia. Nothing Bundt Cakes make great gifts and treats for the holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers and more. Both have recently opened in The Shops at North East Mall.
With the Hurst residents positive packaged liquor store election last year, two more liquor stores have purchased buildings in Hurst and will open soon including Liquor Depot and Liquorland. Liquorland is redeveloping a building that will include a Bahama Bucks with drive thru and the Liquorland in two separate suites. Spec’s Wine, Spirits & Finer Foods hopes to open their new store before year end.
Construction of the Galas at Central Park is well underway and this 94 unit Senior Living apartment complex hopes to open in the first half of next year. The new Provision at Patriot Place apartments opened their doors this summer and are now fully occupied.

Rock Island Auction Company
seeking approvals to relocate headquarters to Bedford
The City is pleased to announce that Rock Island Auction Company is currently under contract to purchase 3508 and 3600 Harwood Road, to relocate its headquarters from Rock Island, Illinois, to Bedford. The company plans to expand operations to Texas, capitalizing on our central geographic location, population density, and thriving and robust economy. “We believe we have found our dream location in Bedford, Texas,” noted company representatives.
Rock Island is the largest, fine and historic, firearms and militaria auction house in the world. The company employees 155 full-time employees and expects to surpass $100,000,000 in sales for the first time this year. Rock Island caters to all levels of collectors, but specializes in the most elite, the most historic, rare and consequently, the most expensive. Approximately 10% of the total sales will be sourced in Bedford, significantly contributing to the local economy. The company’s clients come from all over the world, contributing to Rock Island holding over 80 world records for individual objects in their field, including eight seven-figure individual sales. It is anticipated the company will bring to the community tens of thousands of clients, who will sleep, eat, and shop in Bedford.
Rock Island plans to establish operations in the vacant 89,000-sqf "big box" retail location, completely transforming the building into the finest brick-and-mortar venue of its type in the world. The company’s purchase also includes the 47,500 sq. ft. "strip mall", with the intention to make significant improvements to the entire center, which will allow the company to attract like-minded business owners and would-be entrepreneurs who provide a value-add to Rock Island and their clients.
The City of Bedford and Rock Island are presently negotiating terms of an economic development incentive agreement to assist in offsetting the company’s costs of relocation and extensive planned capital investment. Please visit www.rockislandauction.com for more information.
