Chris Cauley Partners with Cumming City Center
Cumming native and former NBC "The Voice" contestant Chris Cauley has partnered with the Cumming City Center through his business, Four Carsons Entertainment, to help bring top-notch performances to the Center's Lou Sobh Amphitheater. Four Carsons Entertainment will help to vet, book, and manage performances at the Lou Sobh Amphitheater. Cauley said having an opportunity to assist his hometown was a chance he couldn't pass up. "When I learned about the City Center and all the wonderful things this development will bring to my hometown, I knew I wanted to be a part of it," said the Forsyth Central High School graduate who still makes his home in our community. City Center Welcomes The Course @ Tin Cup Grill
A lease signing event was held on March 25th to officially welcome the City Center's putting course, known as The Course @ Tin Cup Grill. The Course, as it is simply referred to as, is an 18-hole course designed and constructed by PuttTek, an Arizona-based company specializing in design and installation of unique putting courses. The Course's design includes 12 holes inspired by some of the most iconic and famous courses throughout the world, and the other six are inspired by local Forsyth County courses. Camron Howell, founder of PuttTek, was invited by Tin Cup Grill owners Scott and Cindy Echols to partner as a co-owner of the project. He believes The Course @ Tin Cup Grill to be PuttTek's largest and most impressive putting course to date, and the company has created some 65 others around the country. The Course is a natural-looking, synthetic-turf course that spans over two acres and will feature lovely wooden bridges over streams and lush vegetation, as well as a renovated, vintage Air Stream trailer as its clubhouse. Help Guide the City's Future: Complete Survey by April 25th
The City of Cumming is in the midst of a process used to update the Comprehensive Plan, which helps to guide development of the City of Cumming. As part of the Comprehensive Plan Update process, which occurs every five years, the City of Cumming is asking residents (both inside and outside the Cumming City Limits) to provide feedback via an online survey. The survey (available in both English and Spanish) takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete and will help the Comprehensive Plan Update Steering Committee to draft an updated plan for the City of Cumming's future. Mayor and City Council Recognize State Spelling Bee Competitors
Two Forsyth County middle school students were honored by Mayor Troy Brumbalow and City Council during their regular March meeting for their extraordinary performances at local and regional spelling bees presented by the Georgia Association of Educators. Nimal Murugan, a seventh grader at South Forsyth Middle School, and Sharanya Vats, a sixth grader at North Forsyth Middle School, both won the GAE Regional Spelling Bee and went on to compete at the GAE State Spelling Championship. Vats came in fourth place at the state competition, but Murugan placed second and qualified to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee this summer as one of two representatives from Georgia.

During the March Work Session and Regular Meeting, City Council also:

  • Presented a proclamation recognizing March as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Representatives of GI-North Gastroenterologist accepted the proclamation. Additionally, the 'Cumming Home' water tower at Exit 14 was lit blue for several days in March in recognition of Colorectal Cancer Awareness.

  • Authorized Cumming Utilities to advertise for bids for improvements at the Cumming Water Production Facility. The Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) approved a low interest loan (0.13 percent) for this project, called Six Million Gallon Clearwell Project.

  • Approved the following purchases for Cumming Utilities: the sole source bid from Cerlic for purchase of clarifier probes and control meters at the Advanced Water Reclamation Facility; the sole source bid from Xylem/ ITT Flygt purchase a new control panel for the Sawnee Creek Wastewater Pumping Station; the sole source bid from NEFCO for launder covers for effluent clarifies at the Advanced Water Reclamation Facility; the low bid from Hardy Fleet Group for purchase of two pickup trucks; and the low proposal/bid from Edge Construction for a masonry sign along Hwy. 9 at the Distribution & Collection shop.

  • Authorized renewal of the City’s general liability, property, and casualty insurance through Selective Insurance.

  • Approved alcoholic beverage license applications for the sale of malt beverages and wine for consumption on the premises for Savory Mexican Restaurant, and for the sale of malt beverages and wine by the package for Carniceria Hernadez.

  • Approved a variance request for Estate Holdings, LLC to allow for 12 additional off-street parking spaces for an outpatient surgery center and medical office facility at 105 Professional Park Drive.

  • Approved the low bid from Troncalli Chrysler Dodge for purchase of a work truck for the Streets and Maintenance Department.

  • Approved the low bid from Productions & Concerts for purchase of a new sound system at the Cumming Fairgrounds' covered arena. The new system will replace the current system, which is 21 years old.


Mayor Recognizes Vietnam War Veterans
Mayor Troy Brumbalow honored members of Cumming Chapter 1030 of the Vietnam Veterans of America and VFW Chapter 9143 on March 29th. Mayor Troy read and presented them with a proclamation recognizing March 29th as Vietnam War Veterans Day. We humbly thank all those who served in the Vietnam War and honor the more than 58,000 men and women who gave their lives for the cause of freedom during the Vietnam Era (Aug. 5, 1964 - May 7, 1975).
Dispose of Household Hazardous Waste on April 9th
Gather up all your old paints, batteries, motor oil, cleaning supplies and other household chemicals for another Household Hazardous Waste Recycling & Disposal event on Saturday, April 9th at the Cumming Fairgrounds Parking Lot #3. Advance registration is required for this event, which is presented by Keep Forsyth County Beautiful. To register and for a complete list of acceptable items, click here.
The Taste Returns April 16th
The Cumming Fairgrounds will again present The Taste on Saturday, April 16th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. under the covered arena. Come out and try food samples, ranging in price from $1 to $4, from some of your favorite local restaurants and food vendors! There's also plenty of family-friendly fun with shows by master puppeteer Peter Hart, and three Easter egg hunts at 11:30, 1:30 and 3:30. Parking and admission for The Taste are free. Cumming Utilities 2022 Water Quality Report
The Cumming Utilities annual Water Quality Report is now available. Each year, Cumming Utilities publishes the Water Quality Report, which lists all measurable contaminants in our drinking water and whether or not Cumming Utilities had any Safe Drinking Water Act violations for the previous calendar year. As usual, the City’s drinking water meets all state and federal regulations. Click here to read the 2022 Water Quality Report.
SAA Cumming Arts Center Spring Events
Members of the Sawnee Association of the Arts (SAA) /Cumming Arts Center have several events planned for the coming weeks:

2023 Art Calendar - Online voting will be open from April 3-17. The public is invited to select their top three favorite entries for the upcoming SAA calendar.

"Oh the Places You'll Go" Art Exhibit - This new, travel-focused exhibit opened March 31st and remains on display at the Cumming Art Center through May 28th. The gallery is open to the public Thursday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Artist Showcase at Legends Distillery - Come out to Legends Distillery (210 Industrial Park Drive, Suite A) on April 23rd between 1 and 6 p.m. to meet and greet the artists of the Legends Distillery Exhibit in a social setting.

A World of Art Festival - Bring the entire family out to the Cumming Arts Center and grounds (111 Pilgrim Mill Road) on Saturday, May 7th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for SAA's first 'A Word of Art' event. This outdoor festival will offer lots of family-friendly fun, such as international art and vendor tents, food trucks, plein air quick paint contest, music, dancers, children's chalk art, Reading Tree, and more!
