Thank you for attending the I-495 Southside Express Lanes Study Spring 2022 Public Information Meetings. 

More than 160 people attended the Spring 2022 Public Information Meetings (PIMs) that were held by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) in cooperation with Federal Highway Administration and other federal, state and local agencies in Virginia and Maryland, to introduce the I-495 Southside Express Lanes Study (495 Southside Study). This series of PIMs included one virtual meeting and three in-person meetings that were held in Oxon Hill, Maryland, Springfield, Virginia, and Alexandria, Virginia. RECAP OF SPRING 2022 PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETINGS


A total of 484 comments were received as part of the Spring 2022 PIMs through comment forms, email, mail, phone, and the formal Q&A session held during the virtual and in-person PIMs. Thank you for providing input and letting us know your thoughts on the 495 Southside Study.

NEXT STEPS


Input received at the Spring 2022 PIMs will be considered during development of the alternatives that will be assessed in the 495 Southside Study. These alternatives will be presented at the next series of PIMs in Fall 2022/Winter 2023. These PIMs will provide the public with additional opportunities to ask questions and provide input on the 495 Southside Study.

ABOUT THE STUDY

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and other federal, state and local agencies in Virginia and Maryland, is conducting an environmental study to potentially extend the Express Lanes system on the southern section of I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) by 11 miles from the I-95/I-395/I-495 (Springfield interchange) in Fairfax County, Virginia, across the Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge, to the MD 210 interchange in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
