Riis Settlement's Eleven Madison Park Partnership Turns One


Local non-profit Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement (LICP Member) celebrated the one year anniversary of its partnership with Eleven Madison Park on September 1. The renowned eatery supported the operation of the “Eleven Madison Truck”, which has provided free, nutritious meals to Queensbridge residents. It now provides 450 daily meals, five days a week, including vegetarian offerings and meals allocated directly to Riis’ Senior Center. Over 84,000 meals have been distributed to date. Learn more

NYC Ferry Fare Policy Modifications - Beginning Sept 12


Beginning September 12, NYC Ferry (LICP Member) will expand its discount program to offer $1.35 one-way tickets for seniors, people with disabilities, and participants in the Fair Fares NYC program. Eligible New Yorkers can apply at ferry.nyc or by mailing an application. Also on the 12th, single-ride tickets will increase to $4.00 per ticket and NYC Ferry will introduce a new 10-trip bundle for $27.50, enabling commuters and other frequent riders continued access to a $2.75 fare. In 1929, Loft Candy was the world’s largest candy retailer. It was also home to the world largest candy factory on Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City. However, behind the scenes, the company was in serious trouble having found cause to recently ‘rid itself of its Loft family founders.’ When the dust settled, the firm was initially in the hands of an investor group headed by a new president, Alfred Miller. "I'm From" Opening Reception - Sept 8


The “I’m From'' exhibition from LIC Artists (LICP Member) displays the work of a group of 40 artists who self-identify as members of a wide range of cultural/racial/gender groups. All of the artists in this exhibition have asked themselves “Where Am I From?” and responded with art that speaks to their individual backgrounds and identity.

New Agora: Sink or Swim Climate Futures - Sept 10


Be the first to see five newly commissioned artworks by this years' Socrates Sculpture Park Fellows, as they present a unique perspective in response to addressing the urgency, enormity, and challenges of climate change. Hear directly from the artists, with an exhibition walkthrough and Q&A, a performance by 2022 fellow Koyoltzintli, and a self guided scavenger hunt that explores the artworks and the park.

The Chocolate Factory Theater partnered with The Bushwick Starr to present The Institute of Useless Activity’s THIS AND THAT, co-created by international theater director Phil Soltanoff (2020 Herb Alpert Award recipient) and performer/puppeteer Steven Wendt (Blue Man Group).

DesignStudio


DesignStudio creates brands and experiences through radical collaboration. Founded in London in 2009, DesignStudio is responsible for some of the most recognizable rebrands of the last decade, including AirBnb, HelloFresh, and the Premier League. After landing in NYC mid-pandemic, DesignStudio recently chose Hunters Point as their permanent home and are in the process of designing a studio space in the Plaxall building on 46th Ave, working with local designers and fabricators to imagine a new future based around hybrid work.
