Dear St. Serra Parents,

From sporting events to musical performances and field trips, it is really refreshing to see our students enjoying extra-curricular activities again this year. It is important for a school to offer these educational opportunities, as they have a positive, lasting impact on children's education. These enriching activities make students more engaged, intellectually curious, and interested in and out of school. Although we have had virtual alternatives available for our students, they aren’t quite the same.

The COVID-19 pandemic has and continues to have an impact on our school. It was announced that St. Serra will not be hosting summer school this coming summer due to lack of teacher interest. However, we do plan to offer summer enrichment activities in the future because we know that they are important. Students benefit from such activities, which are geared toward reducing learning loss, mastering material not learned during the previous school year, and achieving learning gains.

As we continue to get back to “normal,” we will continue to offer our students opportunities to excel outside of the classroom, as these activities play an important role in a child's educational journey.

Always Striving,
Tim Tolzda, Sr. Principal

Fourth Week of Lent, March 27
DRIVEN BY A DREAM
Malnutrition is widespread in Rwanda, but Gloriose and her husband are doing everything they can to keep their children healthy and set them up for success. From learning to grow a kitchen garden to participating in a micro-savings group, Gloriose and Karekezi know it takes many resources to help their children thrive. How have you helped others access what they need this Lent? Please fill your rice bowl up throughout Lent and bring it back when you are ready to donate! Thank you for your participation in our Lenten Service Project!
Lenten Reconciliation, Monday, March 28
We will have a Lenten Reconciliation Prayer Service for all students on SerraVision the morning of Monday, March 28. Then, the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be taking place in the Student Activity Center for grades three through five. This is for students in grades three, four and five who have already received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Formal uniform is required for grades 3-5.
Have You Recorded Your Volunteer Service Hours?
As a reminder, all St. Serra families are obligated to contribute 40 hours of volunteer service per school year. Any remaining volunteer hours not recorded in FACTS by June 8, 2022 will be billed to you at a rate of $15.00 per hour. Please click "Read more" below for more information and important details.
Preschool and TK Lenten Prayer Service, Wednesday, March 30
On Wednesday, March 30, from 10:30-11:00 a.m., Preschool and TK students will have a Prayer Service in the St. Serra Chapel. Parents and grandparents are welcome to attend. Guests should enter and exit through the Chapel Gate, not the School Office. TK students must wear their formal uniform; formal uniform is not required for preschool students but if they have one, we encourage them to wear it. Parents may take their Preschool or TK children home with them at the conclusion of the Prayer Service. The remaining students will be dismissed using the regular dismissal pattern.
