March 23, 2022
Dear OLMC Parents,

“In the end, my Immaculate Heart will Triumph.” These were the words of Our Lady of Fatima to the three shepherd children in 1917. Mary is always a mother of peace and we turn to her in times of need for her powerful intercession, knowing with confidence that she brings our prayers before her Son.

On Friday, March 25th, the Solemnity of the Annunciation, our Holy Father Pope Francis will consecrate Russia and the Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. As a school and parish family we will join together with the Church universal in prayer. This will be...click here to read more.

Rosary for Peace(please read for changes to lunch):
Friday, March 25: 12noon - 12:45pm
Pope Francis will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
The school children will join the Parish in the school parking lot by the basketball goals. This will be at the same time that Pope Francis will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

This event is outside so please make sure your child has a coat (high of 47 on Friday) and they can bring a towel to sit on if they want. (If it rains, this will be moved to the gym)

**Please note that the lunch schedule has been adjusted for this event. If your child has an appointment during this time, we ask that you pick them up before 11:40am or after 1pm.

***KPM Parents: Please drop your children off early (at 11:45am) at the front of school. Mrs. Pike will meet you at the end of the sidewalk. Office staff will watch them walk from Ms. Pike to the front door of school where they will wait for everyone and walk together as a class to the Rosary Service.

Children will eat lunch in their classrooms. If they ordered pizza, they will go to the cafeteria to get their order and return to the classroom to eat lunch.

We still need the parents assigned to lunch duty to work their assigned shift. If you could be here at 10:40am that would be terrific!

Pizza distribution will follow the schedule below:
10:45: Kindergarten
10:55: Grades 7 & 8
11:05: Grades 1 & 2
11:10: Grades 3 & 4
11:15: Grades 5 & 6

Students will be dismissed to the parking lot for the prayer service at 11:45am.

Traffic Concerns:
We realize that the construction of the new Parish Life Center have created some challenges in our parking lot. We are grateful that it has not impacted the route of our morning & afternoon carpools.Thank you to everyone that has adjusted their arrival time - we have seen a decrease in the number of tardy children in the mornings!

If you are visiting the campus on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday, we recommend you enter the parking lot from the Oak Ridge Rd entrance. The Merciful H.E.L.P. Center's Food Pantry is blessed to be able to help about 1,550 families (about 4,000 people) that qualify for food assistance each month! The customers remain in their cars and create a line from the blue awning around the front of the Matthew 25 building. Due to the large numbers of customers, the line gets backed up onto 146th Street at times. The Food Pantry distribution hours are listed below for your reference. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Get Ready for ILEARN:
ILEARN is the State of Indiana’s standardized assessment that measures student achievement and growth according to Indiana Academic Standards for grades 3 – 8.
  • The assessments will be the weeks of April 18 – May 13.
  • Your child’s teacher will let you know the days/dates your child will be testing.
  • Attendance during these days is very important. Please make every attempt to reschedule or schedule doctor and dentist appointments around the test dates.

Here are just a few tips for a good testing day:
·        Make sure students get a good night’s sleep. This is important every night!!!!
·        A good morning at home makes for a good morning at school.
·        Make sure your children eat a good healthy breakfast.
·        Talk to your children about the test. Remind them to give their best effort. This test is important, but too much stress can be a problem also.
·        Encourage your child to listen to the teacher for directions.
·        Encourage your child to think positively – they can do this!!!!
·        Smile and tell a funny joke – laughing is good for everyone!
Volunteer Opportunities at School:
Office Helpers: We still have a few opportunities to have two volunteers every Thursday making copies for teachers. You can start right after drop off and are usually done by 9:30ish. This frees up the teachers' time for important things like lesson plans! Click here to sign up for Office Helpers

Art Room Volunteers (grades 1-3):
We have lots of opportunities for parents to help in the art room for our younger grades. You DO NOT need to be an artist. You will just be there as a support to our wonderful art teacher! So if you can wash paint brushes, cut paper and just have fun we would love your help! Click here to sign up for Art Room Helpers.
PTO Board Nominations Are Open!
We need YOU to serve on the OLMC School PTO Board next year! Joining the PTO is a great way to get involved, give back to our amazing community, and make a positive difference. Personally I have really enjoyed my time on the PTO and felt that we were able to have a positive impact in the school.

We are taking nominations for Vice-President, Assistant Treasurer, and Corresponding Secretary. Nomination forms should have come home with your youngest student. You can nominate yourself or someone else. If you need another copy of the form, click here to print now.

If you have any questions or want to find out more about any of the positions, please contact Jane Ann at jamg2395@gmail.com.
