A comedy, The Waverly Gallery was a finalist for the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Gladys, the elderly matriarch of the Green family, has run an art gallery in a small Greenwich Village hotel for many years. The management wants to replace her less-than-thriving gallery with a coffee shop. Always irascible but now increasingly erratic, Gladys is a cause for concern for her daughter, her son-in-law, and her grandson, from whose point of view this poignant memory play is told. A wacky and heartrending look at the effect of senility on a family, The Waverly Gallery was a success at New York's Promenade Theatre, winning an Obie for legendary Eileen Heckart in the role of Gladys. Presented with permission from Concord Theatricals.

Tickets are $18 and available in advance on our website, by calling our box office, or at the door before each performance.

Culture & Cocktails: The House on Jonathan Street

Miller House Museum 135 West Washington Street Hagerstown, MD 21740

01/13/2023 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm

Jonathan Street has a rich history as one of Hagerstown's oldest African American communities. Nestled amongst this history is the site of recent archaeological excitement in a small 1830s cabin (made from timber felled from an earlier 1730s construction) featuring some of the area's oldest building materials capturing early African American history. On Friday, January 13, join Ross Hodge and Patrick Hodge of 3 Roads Communications, Inc., as they share with us their journey of creating the soon-to-be-released documentary, "The House on Jonathan Street," (coming 2023 for public television and through Amazon Prime.) This month’s cocktails will be the Log Cabin! This cozy winter cocktail combines apple brandy, hazelnut-infused bourbon, maple syrup, and bitters for a deliciously sweet experience! Doors open at 5:30 PM and light hors d' oeuvres will be served! Culture & Cocktails 2023 has been made possible by the generous support of the James and Mary Schurz Foundation of Williamsport, MD.

The Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theater is proud to present their first MainStage performance of 2023, the classic musical, Grease! Come celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Grease at The Playhouse, opening February 3, 2023.

Here is Rydell High's senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding "Burger Palace Boys" and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking "Pink Ladies" in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head "greaser" Danny Zuko (played by Dustin Perrott) and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski (played by Kristen Davis) try to relive the high romance of their "Summer Nights" as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as "Greased Lightnin'," "It's Raining on Prom Night," "Alone at the Drive-In Movie" recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. An eight-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals place Grease among the world's most popular musicals.

*GREASE contains adult language and adult themes.

The show is preceded by Dinner featuring Dinner Rolls, Plated Salad, Dinner, Dessert, and Coffee, Tea, and Iced Tea. A Full Service Cash Bar is available. Bar tab and gratuity not included. Children under age 5 are not admitted.

Grease plays February 3-March 26 on Friday and Saturday evenings at 6PM and select Sunday matinees at 1PM.

The Washington County Playhouse is located at 44 North Potomac Street, Rear. Since 1985, The Playhouse has been entertaining guests in the heart of Hagerstown's Arts and Entertainment District and City Center.

Tickets (including dinner and show) cost $63.00 for Adults, and $57.00 for Active Military and First Responders. Tickets can be purchased at www.washingtoncountyplayhouse.com or by calling (301)739-7469.
