November City Council Meeting Recap
The November regular City Council meeting took place this past Monday evening (Nov. 15, 2021) at City Hall. Here is a brief recap from that meeting:

FINANCIALS:
City Manager Julie Oakley gave an update on the current state of finances for the first month of the city's fiscal year (which began on Oct. 1). So far this fiscal year, revenue is ahead of budget by $64,149, and expenditures are under budget by $109,481.

LOHMANS SPUR:
City Council voted unanimously to approve the Lohmans Spur Road Phasing Agreement, which was part of the numerous conditions council set when recently approving zoning for The Square at Lohmans project. The agreement sets development standards and a construction schedule for the segment of Lohmans Spur that will connect The Square at Lohmans site with the existing section of Lohmans Spur located next to the Lakeway Police Department.

ROUGH HOLLOW:
City Council voted unanimously to approve a revised and consolidated preliminary plan for Phases 1, 2 and 3 of the Lakeway Highlands/Rough Hollow Development (conditional upon LCRA approval of the water quality portion). The three individual preliminary plans had been previously approved. This consolidated plan adds section 2 Phase 9, the parkland dedication, and the water quality features as outlined in the amended and restated development agreement, which was approved by City Council in March 2021.

EASTSIDE LANDING:
City Council voted to deny the adoption of an amended development agreement for Eastside Landing. The following agenda item for zoning was pulled by the applicant so that the developer could come back to council with a revised plan.

NIGHTINGALE PROJECT:
Following numerous citizen comments and feedback regarding traffic concerns and density, City Council voted (4-3) to deny a request from Conine Residential Group for a Planned Unit Development, which would have included 248 rental units of workforce housing off RR 620 and Nightingale Lane on 7.76 acres of land. A super-majority (3/4th majority) vote was required to overturn the Zoning and Planning Commission recommendation, which was also to deny the request.

Holiday News: Road Projects, Trash Service & More
Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and many will be traveling next week to visit family for the holiday. Below are some important updates about next week that could help as you finalize your holiday plans, including a change to the trash service schedule, city closures, road projects and advice from Lakeway MUD on proper food disposal:

ROAD PROJECTS:
Lone Star Paving will begin an asphalt overlay project on several local roadways starting next week. The project will take place Monday through Wednesday (with a delay due to the Thanksgiving holiday), and then pick back up on the following week. Lanes will be reduced on these roadways during the project, so expect some minor delays starting next week:

  • Debba Drive (begin first)
  • Cavalier Canyon Drive (begin first)
  • Sparrow Lane (begin first)
  • Knarr Street
  • Schooner Drive
  • Tallstar Drive
  • Dolphin Drive
  • Indian Bend Drive
  • Robin Dale Court
  • Robin Dale Drive
  • Bermuda Street
  • Cutlass
  • Dragon
  • Highlander Street
  • Flamingo Cove
  • Dart

TRASH SERVICE CHANGES:
If your trash/recycling day falls on Thanksgiving (Thursday, Nov. 25), your carts will be serviced on Friday, Nov. 26 instead. If your trash service typically happens on Friday, your carts will be serviced on Saturday, Nov. 27. As a reminder, food scraps, plastic wrap and bags are not recyclable. Aluminum foil and pans are recyclable if you give it a quick rinse to remove any food. CLICK HERE for more information from our Solid Waste Services.

PROTECT YOUR PIPES:
Cook it. Can it. Trash it. Good advice from our friends at Lakeway MUD. This holiday season, when you cook the turkey, remember to trash the grease. Fats, Oil, Grease (F.O.G) clog pipes, so keep them out of your sinks. The best way is to use a tin can to collect the F.O.G., let it cool and then throw it in the trash. CLICK HERE for more important advice from Lakeway MUD.

OFFICE CLOSURES:
The City of Lakeway offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 25 and Friday, Nov. 26 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. If you need to reach out to our police department, please call (512) 261-2800 for non-emergencies. For emergencies, please call 9-1-1.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday from the City of Lakeway!
