Family Engagement
It's a Guy Thing

When men actively participate in children’s education, it leads to better grades and higher attendance. Plus men’s participation contributes to creating healthy school climates and – in the long run – increased likelihoods of college attendance.

Men have been a part of the PTA from our beginning a century ago, and men must continue to be involved in the next century and beyond if our kids – and our future – will truly be successful.

Health
Preventing a Fentanyl Overdose

Between January 2019 and December 2020, there was an 89% increase in illegally made fentanyl seized at the Southwest border. That means fentanyl is here in San Diego County, and the deaths are increasing. But there is something that may prevent an overdose: Naloxone.

Naloxone, also known as NARCAN®, is a fast-acting nasal spray that can stop a fentanyl or other opioid-related overdose and save a life by quickly restoring breathing. You should consider carrying naloxone if people you know use pills, powders or heroin. If naloxone is used, the victim should go to the nearest emergency room. Naloxone is not a treatment for an opioid use disorder. Naloxone is carried at many San Diego County pharmacies (copay may be required), local community clinics, or through your health care provider. A New PATH, a non-profit advocacy organization, provides free opioid prevention and response training in San Diego County. Having trained people to call 911 and help administer naloxone could save a life.

How to calculate the quorum for PTA meetings

A quorum is the minimum number of members who must be present at your PTA meeting to make the proceedings of that meeting valid. Your bylaws will help you calculate the quorum - whether it's for an association, executive board or committee meeting.
