MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
This past Friday, we raised a flag to salute and honor the people of Ukraine who are being mercilessly attacked by a madman…in the center of our Village. Proud to be Ossining’s Mayor: Praying for the mayors in Ukraine. As the Ukraine invasion continues, the humanitarian toll is also mounting: Nearly 5 million people have been displaced since the start of the invasion, according to U.N. agencies. People around the world are seeking ways to help the Ukrainian people. A number of global nonprofits have stepped up to deliver funds and humanitarian aid in the region; Here is a list of organizations aiding Ukraine:

The Village hosted its second Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) Local Planning Committee (LPC) Meeting on Saturday. This group represents people who have brick and mortar retail stores, web businesses, minority and women store owners, chairs of local volunteer groups, clergy, Village Historian, staff, elected officials, etc. We took a walking tour of the DRI area and the currently proposed projects following a hybrid meeting at Village Hall. It was a beautiful day – and we had a fabulous turnout of engaged community members. Please visit the village website to learn more www.villageofossining.org and of course, contact me if you want to take a tour yourself. Mayor@villageofossining.org.
Good news!! Veterans Park is getting new playground equipment this year. The Recreation Advisory Board is seeking the community’s input on the selection of the playground unit that will be installed. These units are specifically designed for children ages 5-12 years old. Click here: https://forms.gle/UWeDGNsKwuqWCWe1A
More good news! What's next on the environmental front? This past Friday, our DPW crew assisted our roof consultant and Ecogy representative in making a final roof inspection before the commencement of panel design for the Village's Operations Center solar panels. This is the first of two solar panels installations being coordinated in the Village on Village property; the second is the panel installation on the Village's portion of the Train Station Parking Lot (similar to what Maryknoll recently installed and with the same vendor). The Village will be collecting an annual lease payment for the use of our roof shed (and parking lot), with no out-of-pocket dollars to taxpayers of future expense for the system’s maintenance or operation. The end result will be power to the local grid at a discounted rate for qualifying Ossining residents. I will keep the community updated on this initiative. Thank you to Paul Fraioli and his staff!
This week’s Work Session includes:
  • The Recreation Advisory Board will make a presentation on the Community Center Renovations being considered as part of the DRI process. Please keep in mind that we also have $500K in a DASNY SAM grant that would be designated to the pool area and locker rooms specifically.
  • As per the next phase of our Village-wide parking plan, there are two areas for which the Board will be requested to consider changes to parking regulations. One is the (3) spaces outside the Atlantic Bar on Croton Avenue; the other is the Quimby Street lot (just across from 30 Water Street), which is currently used as commuter parking.
  • Chief Sylvester will give a biannual report on the status of Police Reform initiatives in Ossining.
  • Finally, Mr. Kahan will discuss the revised Sirenita Lounge cabaret application (embedded in the agenda)—Sirenita was denied earlier this year but has reapplied.

A reminder that the Board of Trustees will be holding a public engagement Village Hall meeting to get the public’s input on zoning issues related to Cannabis zoning in the Village. The Village has agreed to allow Cannabis sales via dispensaries (not lounges), and your input is appreciated. Please join us Wednesday, March 30, at 7:30. We will be conducting the public meeting in a hybrid fashion (in person and on zoom).
