Yom Kippur

This year on Wednesday, October 5, Jewish people observed Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur (Yom Ha-Kippurim), or Day of Atonement, is the most solemn holiday in the Jewish religion. It is observed on the 10th day of the lunar month of Tishri, which typically falls between September and October. During this time followers of Judaism seek to make up for their sins and reunite with God. The holiday marks the end of the “10 days of repentance” that began with Rosh Hashanah on the first day of Tishri. During the period between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, followers will greet each other by saying "G’mar chatima tova" or "a good final sealing [in the Book of Life]."
